As investment partners with the Golf Channel, we deserve much better
As a kid, my parents bought a TV, we plugged it in and got 3 or 4 channels. The only financial decision was whether we wanted to buy a better antenna in order to also receive the Washington, D.C. channels. Otherwise, everything was free. We really had no right to bitch about anything as we were not invested in the process. Not so in 2010.
The Golf Channel used to be included in my Verizon basic package at no charge. Now, I have to pay for the upgrade. That's cool. I pay Verizon, they pay TGC. Either way, I am a revenue generating investment partner.
Also, every time I go to thegolfchannel.com my visit is recorded. The more visits TGC gets, the more they can charge for their onsite web ads. So, again I am a revenue generating investment partner.
I am guessing my financial participation to TGC's bottom line is probably about $6.00 per annum, but I still do not think I am getting my $6.00 worth. Here is why.
The current on air talent stinks. That is not just my opinion, just recently I did an online poll and the results came back showing how pathetic the respondents felt the TGC announcers were performing. If you recall, TGC people had a 48% approval rating versus the rest of the golf industry's 67%.
The programming is predictable, repetitive and dull. Also, by 8 a.m., the info ads are going full speed. But, as boring as Vince Cellini is, I would much rather see Vince from Sham-Wow or Vince from Slap-Chop.
Also, Arnold Palmer is a fabulous guy, a golf icon, a gentleman, a patriot and an airplane pilot. He is NOT the living reincarnation of that JC guy from 2,000 years ago. He co-founded the Golf Channel. He did not cure cancer, polio or any other life threatening disease. I love him too, but, puh-leez.
Using my poll, this is the list of on air talent you should keep. The rest, along with anybody with a management position must go today.
Frank Nobilo
Brandel Chamblee
Curt Byrum
Nick Faldo
Jerry Foltz
Peter Oosterhuis
Mark Rolfing
Tim Rosaforte
Finally, rehire Peter Kessler, hire Ryan Ballengee from Waggleroom and courtgolf.

HA ! Thanks for the inclusion – but the LAST things you want is to see my mug on TV and hear my voice babbling. I have the face and voice for the written word.
Brian Katrek, of Sirius/XM/PGA Tour radio fame, should be sitting in the host chair next to Faldo – or at least walking the fairways – but he is a natural host.
