New at Waggle Room: Tags to Explain Headlines & Stories
It has been brought to my attention that this site and its content are often confused for being a total news site. Yes, we break news here, bring you exclusive interviews, and refer you to great reporting done elsewhere. But, first and foremost, the beauty of running a golf blog is that this site can do so much more than that.
We can do humor, poll the public/readership, allow you all to post, and interact with each other. We can cover news stories that might be barely connected to golf, or off the beaten path.
In the midst of that wide net we cast, it can sometimes be tough to understand what is what. So, I am going to start introducing categories for our posts so that it is easy to figure out what my intent is on each post. In the spirit of Waggle Room, I invite your feedback on these proposed topic areas:
- Humor
- News
- Exclusives
- Polls
- Announcements
Let me know what you think and what you might add/subtract.

A Modest Proposal
Ryan, go to AOL, the ISP for the mentally and emotionally challenged. They have a wide array of little animated avatars to define every mood.
Unnecessary
After all, sometimes the fun is in the misunderstandings. Seriously.
Agreed, Wendy.
TOTALLY unnecessary. Unless you wanaa set up a separate remedial class.
Give the readers some credit. Not that my credit’s any good.
If you're gonna make labels...
I don’t think you need that many. You might want to label breaking news, just to catch readers’ attention, but you could do that by just prefacing the post title with “Breaking:”.
The only other problem you have is with some folks missing the humor, right? Wendy may be right about the misunderstandings. I started using a humor tag on my site, but since my site focuses on the “how-to” side of things, I felt I had to do it. Otherwise, people might hurt themselves!

I've made a fool of myself
a couple of times (no,no, honestly) on this site – I just want to make sure everyone else has the same/equal opportunity.
You tricked me into that
Now I “properly” hate you!
Yea, it’s pretty much assumed that what’s written here is an opinion, slanted in some human way.
But if you are going to make categories, how about ‘opinion’ as one.

A New view.
After re-reading Ryan’s article I’ve decided it’s his best sarcasm yet! His hubris is extraordinary!
Possibly but
without tags or emoticons – it was difficult to tell – I’ll take my chances, however.
His hubris is extraordinary?
You should’ve seen my bris.
Wendy, I doubt
even his family..and no, it wasn’t 24, more like 26…But I jest…I’m with the rest of the brain trust here…we know what is being written and in what vein….as for the rest, let us be happy in our ignorance…STUB
I know how it is pronounced, but is it
spelled “snarcasm” or “snarkasm”? I think you have to be 50 or older to do it properly, but it would make a great category. Or, how about, "Curmudgeonly’…???
snarky |ˈsnärkē|
adjective ( snarkier, snarkiest) informal
(of a person, words, or a mood) sharply critical; cutting; snide : the kid who makes snarky remarks in class.
• cranky; irritable : Bobby’s always a bit snarky before his nap.
sarcasm |ˈsärˌkazəm|
noun
the use of irony to mock or convey contempt : his voice, hardened by sarcasm, could not hide his resentment. See note at wit

OK, I thought a snarkasm was both
the sense of pleasure a woman experiences when she humiliates a chauvinistic male on the course (for example, by outdriving him), and the casual remark she made after doing so.
In either case, Ryan would not be able to give it. Whether he could receive it or not might be a question for that special woman in his life…!

I hate to be that guy
But if you’re going to tag posts, how about an “Eldrick” category.
"I’ll give him a badge and he can be my deputy." -Sheriff Melvin appoints Deputy Braun
I'd subtract the first
five bullets you listed. You’ve got a winner. If it ain’t broke …
Yeah,
what TXQ just said.

Well, the posts will be tagged by “section” so that people can go to their own section from the front page. Other than that, not much will change about what I write.

Well, this may wind up like a whole lot of other old “features” at the site: me being tired of it about a month from now.

Well, okay. I suppose you
could list the alphabet too for those who have to sing the song to know the letters.
Don’t tempt me – I’ve done far worse on video than that :)

To put it another way, Waggle Room doesn't
need any Wiggle Room. It’s tight. Stet.
My original intent of suggesting some “tags” or whatever they are is for ease of finding things – for the most part, I think it’s usually clear when you’re attempting humor, I just thought it would be nice to be able to look to find certain posts, especially news related posts – the fan posts and fan shots are great on the side – what’s not there are the things Ryan authors – and it seems like once they go off the front page they get lost. That’s what I was hoping for.
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
I think this can definitely help with that, too.
