Tiger May Be in Mississippi, But Is He a Sex Addict? (Updated)

Last Friday, Radar Online claimed to have the exclusive on where Tiger is: Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Why there? Throwing darts at a map? Who knows, since he was also rumored to have been in sex rehab in South Africa, Florida, and Arizona.
But, for whatever reason, the more mainstream news went with Mississippi. CBS News reported it on their radio telecasts. The Associated Press sent a reporter down to Mississippi to try to verify if Woods is actually there. Chris Talbott's report is pretty darn amusing. He hunts all over town for answers and cannot seem to come to any conclusion about if Woods is or isn't there.
Seems like it would be worth understanding a little more about Pine Grove since several media outlets have reported being misled or hung up on by center staff.
One great place to learn more about Pine Grove is on their Twitter account. That's where I found out that they do have a sex addiction treatment program. If only the TV station in Mississippi had heard of Twitter or the Internet, then maybe they wouldn't have gotten the run around from Pine Grove staff.
The program is called Gentle Path, is six weeks in length, and treats those "suffering from sexual addiction, relationship addiction and sexual anorexia." But, be warned about the definition of sex addiction. On their own blog post on sexual addiction, Pine Grove says, "Problematic sexual behavior does not necessarily mean that you are a sex addict. There are many other conditions." That means that while some of Tiger's purported mistresses may not be perfect 10s, that does not mean he is a sex addict.
In fact, Pine Grove links to a handy quiz that will tell you if you are a sex addict. (Take the quiz here!) Based upon information confirmed by "mainstream media," I took the quiz. The results from the quiz claim that Woods is a sex addict, but only mildly.
Who the hell knows anymore.
If Tiger is in Mississippi for treatment, then the six week program would end just into March. That would give him time to prepare for a return to golf either at Bay Hill or the Masters. In the summer, he could return to Mississippi for Pine Grove's alumni reunion. The booking code for the hotels? PGA 2010.
UPDATE: Sports by Brooks has an awesome post that details why he believes this whole Mississippi sex rehab story is rubbish, including the fact that a University of Southern Mississippi student that purportedly talked to E! News doesn't even seem to exist!

I heard South Africa, then Wickenberg, AZ (probably wanted to visit 3irons in Scottsdale) now Mississippi. Would it be something if he hired body doubles? And lest any one get confued here, THIS IS NOT A NEWS ITEM!

Tiger Woods and sex addiction will be the topic on the Jane Velez Mitchell show on Headline News Network at 7PM EST tonight. She has talked about this same subject before and I’m sure she’ll say the same stupid things tonight, for example, she said last week….“How can people blame TW when he has a condition, sex addiction, where he is not responsible for his actions?”…or words to that effect.
For the record, there is no such thing as “sex addiction”. It is based on the fact that there are indeed substances that are physiologically addicting. Opiates, such as heroin and morphine, are strongly physiologically addicting; alcohol and nicotine are less strongly physiologically addicting, althought they may be even moreso psychologically addicting. When a person becomes addicted to heroin for instance, and that substance is withdrawn, then that person will have physiological symptoms, such as shaking, tremors, increased heart rate, etc. There are no such comparable physiological symptoms associated with withholding sex from the alleged sexually addicted person, although again there are psychological factors, but these can be relieved by masturbation.
Sexual activity is a behavior, and we as humans, have free will about what acitivities/behavior we choose to engage in. Anything else is a cop-out, a brazen attempt to deny responsibility for our actions. Or as Flip Wilson would say, “The Devil made me do it!”

Mississippi? I think not. If Tiger wanted to get away from tabloids he would go to his ancestral home, Thailand. He could successfully hide in an off the beaten path Buddhist monastery as long as it didn’t get traffic from “outside.”

A six week “program”…am I the only one that this strikes as funny ? What kind of employees do you have to have to ween someone off of a “sex addiction” ?
By the way – I’m not one who buys into this idea there is such a thing as a “sex addiction”, and places like this are just so much snake oil to collect big chunks of change from gullible people with a lot more money than sense.

addiction, but there is definitely a problem. I just thinking that if I’m a billionaire and I want to fool around, then my money would allow me to at least “buy” the best. Looking at some of the pictures of the “ladies”…..well, let’s just say UGLY and SKANKY!! Maybe the rumors of him being a tightwad are true……..Arggggghhh Go Figure.
