Two Excellent Ways to Be Charitable Through Golf

There has been a lot of talk in the last week about how we all can respond to the terrible earthquake in Haiti.  It is my personal hope that all of you are able to contribute to the charities and nonprofits that are helping to provide relief and services to the Haitian people who desperately need the most basic resources.

Though not quite on the scale of that human tragedy, there are a couple of charity golf events in February that I hope you might consider supporting as well.

Earlier this summer, we told you about the concept of a golf marathon - a one day golf event where a group of players commit to a full day of golf, garnering pledges from supporters for every hole played in the event.  The event we told you about was in North Carolina, and its beneficiary was the Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation.  The folks behind that event are presenting another event on February 27, but this time it is at PGA National, the week of the Honda Classic.  There are still some spots available to play.  Either phone 404.788.4425 orcheck out their website.

The other event that I want to tell you about is presented by Dave Andrews' Future Stars Foundation.  The organization provides financial assistance to Duramed Futures Tour players that are struggling with the finances required to travel around the USA to chase their professional dreams.  The Future Stars Foundation is hosting a pro-am on February 20 in Apopka, Florida, that is still looking for players.  The tournament has 28 Futures Tour players participating and you can get to know some of the future of the LPGA Tour before they hit the big time.  It's $200 to play. You can check out the website for more details.

I doubt there is a more charitable group than golfers. Even the guys who play the $25 muni generally find a way to play in one or two charity scrambles every year. And a lot of us have met some serious high rollers who put some serious dollars into charity events.

Ahh,

so this is where the girls get the funds to keep playing…I wondered about that, cause ya know the purses don’t go to paying much more than bare bones expenses…they sure can’t get rich from them…STUB
