Sony Open in Hawaii, Round Two - Game Thread
The second round of the Sony Open in Hawaii airs tonight on Golf Channel starting at 7:30pm ET. Steve Stricker finished the first round yesterday by birdieing in the last four holes. He completed his second round today and is now on -7, one out of the current lead of Robert Allenby.
First round leader Zach Johnson is on the course right now, and is also a shot out of the lead. Ricky Barnes is on -6. The other Rickie looks like he's going to miss the cut.

Ok, I'm now on life support.
Dropped 14 spots yesterday….hey maybe that’s a record??? I’m dying, so stay tuned and I will post an address where you can send flowers. Arrangements are pending….
:(
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
Guys guys….it’s not a sprint…it’s a marathon… (thought maybe a classic cliche might help)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Soooo, you're saying this is like hole #1?
Great, I’ve got 17 more chances to screw-up. Whose idea was this fantasy golf stuff anyway???
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
Hang in there EM….Allenby should get you something. Sorry about Kuch – he’s a fave of mine!
I’ve already switched up for tomorrow – but I’m afraid I might lose some ground myself.
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
Post here....
before getting to close to the ledge…we’ll talk you off!
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
Red......I forgot, I can't "off" myself yet.
The Saints play this afternoon. That could send me over the ledge…lol Who Dat!
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
Oh geez,
Big game today for the Saints…I can wait until tomorrow – the entire state of MN has put our Super Bowl hopes squarely on the shoulders of #4 – which reminds me, I need to get to my prayer group! ;-)
I switched up and now have Zach & Davis on the squad – I hope they come through!
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
Red.......Who Dat.....we got it done today
and now we wait. I’m not sure who I want to play……Farve scares me because of all his experience and the Boyz are really playing well. The Saints showed their power today and it should be a good game whoever we play.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
That was a SCARY good performance from the Saints. They looked like they did the first 3/4’s of the season.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Starting to get a little excited about next week.
I didn’t know what to expect today with the poor finish to the season, but they are well coached and were ready to play. Who Dat!
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
5 1/2 rounds into "2K10"...
…and my ears are bleeding compliments of Kelly Tilghman – lame, force segues for everything…and will someone please take the tea kettle off the stove, the steam is…oh wait…that’s Tilghman’s S’s. (oh how dramatic)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Red,
let EM jump, another one out of the way….and K stands for thousand, hense 2K = 20 thousand or 2010…A lazy way I will admit…Court, don’t be too tough on
Tilghman….some people when they get chastized, just never do come back with any zip…STUB
remember "The Peter Principle" ?
The thing about Tilghman is that she was great doing the news on Golf Central – I don’t understand why they took her off of shows like that. When she was given the 19th hole show – she proved that she’s really bad at conversation – always trying too hard. Then they put her in the booth with Faldo where she not only tries too hard and has nothing to add to the conversation, she’s completely overmatched by Faldo, so she tries to one-up him all the time. (which is what got her in trouble last year with the Tiger Woods “lynching” comment)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
2K10 and round two
I well remember the Armegeddon that was supposed to happen in “Y2K”. That epithet was beat into the ground. Actually I think who’s saying it is more irritating than the 2K10 itself. The cut has been made at the Sony Open. Tadd Fujikawa, Stewart Appleby missed it, oh yeah, John Daly and Rickie Fowler too, the old hope and the new hope. Daly? That’s no surprise. Fowler, that’s disappointing. I wonder if he’s playing the Hope next week? Probably not, two tournaments in a row would be an awful grind. Better get some rest.
Talk about End of the World.....I actually
agreed with and complimented Ping on one of his dissertations on another thread. Cover your heads…….lol
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
All my picks
are paraplegics…At least playing like it.. Red…you weren’t one of the groupies that took lil Ricky were you?…EM, take your Prozac and lay down, so if the Saints don’t come marching in (hell, I just had to do that)…it won’t wear on ya too bad…Oh, and Red, it’s Da Boyz by 7…STUB
I didn’t drink the Ricky kool-aid, I had Cabrera & DLIII as my backup – I switched to DL III for today and tomorrow – that might have been premature – Cabrera didn’t end up as bad as I thought. Oh well.
I’m nervous about the game tomorrow – No fumbles by AP, and a decent performance by our offensive line and I think we’ve got a chance. I’m lovin’ the Farve spirit.
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
Red.....You couldn't drink it.....I guzzled it all!
Well the pre-game is coming on now. I’ll have to get out my laptop and get comfortable watching the Saints and keeping up with my not-so-great fantasy team. Oh, I need some pepsid……drank too much kool aid.
WHO DAT!!!!
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
If I didn't
have bad luck, I’d have no luck at all…Friggin chockin dogs…STUB
What do ya do
when all the players on your list can’t even get in the gate at the event…Security Guards said all their pass privileges were revoked due to a bad smell…STUB
Good day for me. Saints win....and my fantasy team played well. Sorry Stub.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
FYI: Your Major Champion Up Date
From bottom to top…. Glover – MC, never heard his name mentioned, Cink – T-65 (last), Y.E. Yang – T-44, and the Cream rising to the top…. Angel Cabrera in a nail biter, tied for 33rd. I believe I heard this was the first time in 28 years that all four major champions from the previous year played the Sony…. This year’s crew didn’t exactly light it up….
Red.....Great job....still #1
You’re doing great. Keep up the great picks. Are you ready for some football??? Should be a great game.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
Way to Go Vikings!!!
We’re still in it….it’s been a fun season.
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
GRRR...Zach.
Did he not know I just needed him to shoot 1 under par?? He goes 70-70 on the weekend?? That swtich cost me 1st place this week!! I should have stuck with Els, dang it!! And what happended to Sabbatini? Phew, I’m glad I don’t have feel like I have to pick him every week.
YAY for Steve Stricker on a nice 3rd place finish – it was hard not rooting for him. Goosen rocked it on Sunday!
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
I'll tell ya what happened to Sabbatini.....
I HAD HIM ACTIVE…..that’s what!! But the Saints won….so I’m happy! :)
WHO DAT!
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
Um, could you tell me your picks then before Thursday so I don’t get the same guys?? LOL It’s hard enough trying to figure out who Court might root for and staying away from them, too!
We’ll be seeing you in the Super Dome… can I ask…did you think it was inappropriate for the Vikes to score that final TD when the game was almost over? I guess I was so excited about winning that it didn’t dawn on me that it was “classless”…but I guess some folks in Dallas were not happy.
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
Red...That's a tough question for me.
I work with some Boyz fans that really rubbed it in when the Boyz beat the Saints. Most of them are extremely arrogant….. but, I have several family members that are Cowboy fans, but don’t do the “smack” talk stuff, so for them I think it was not necessary, but for the other Cowboy fans that talk so much……I wish they had scored 2 more times. How’s that for straddling the fence……Maybe I should go into politics….Diane and Wendy would love that!! lol
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
You sound pretty genuine to me
I respect your views if I don’t agree with them.
Anyway, anyone who supports the Saints can’t be all bad. I wonder how it would go down if I suddenly started shouting out “Who Dat?” at their soccer matches?
I was happy for
Shiancoe for getting a TD…Sidney Rice was getting all of the attention!
You definitely sound like you have a knack for politics!
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
Red,
I think EM is hitting on ya, be careful…LOL…STUB
Da Boys is da kidz....
Whoa Stub, they didn’t just lose, they were humiliated! Jerry Jones must feel like crap! But you know, it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
The Cowboys just need
a new stadium, bigger scoreboard.
The Sony is in the books!
I had some comments on that “other blog” about the nature of “lesser lights” on the leaderboard and how that doesn’t make for a satisying tournament. So this morning we find Ryan Palmer bested Robert Allenby. That’s great for Ryan! The Major champions were no where to be found. This is like going to Yankees vs. Red Sox game and finding out that their Triple A Farm clubs will be playing instead. Sure those guys play some great ball, double plays will be made and home runs hit…. But no A-Rod…no Jeter…not the same… No to worry tough, next week there will be stars, Justin Timberlake is teeing it up. Man, it doesn’t get any better than that!
So a now FOUR TIME PGA TOUR winner isn’t good enough for you ? Palmer beat the major winners. He didn’t cheat – he played better. I don’t understand how you think that just because 4 guys won tournaments with a label of “major” last year, they should be at the top of every leaderboard. As long as you’ve been playing golf and in the business, haven’t you figured out that nobody is great every week and sometimes a guy is great only once in his career ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I know it's a sensitive issue....
CourtG: The Sony was Palmer’s 3rd. win. But that’s beside the point. I agree with all you said, I guess I like a show… I like to see a number of top players in the field and I like to see them perform. It’s the difference between watching a great actor or watching his understudy. I’ve been to PGA Tour events and I’ve been to Nationwide Tour events (only then it was called the Hogan Tour…) I saw John Daly before he was JOHN DALY. Same with Tom Lehman. The quality of golf was virtually the same from a spectator’s point of view. But it was a bigger thrill to watch Trevino, and Nicklaus at a late 80’s Skins game. It would be great if Ryan Palmer had a multi-win season and became RYAN PALMER if you get my point.
I understand what you’re saying – and we all like watching our favorites – but why cheat yourself out of the enjoyment of watching some of the best in the world play the game ? I can go watch the Atlanta Braves play and be completely disappointed in the game…or completely thrilled – but I went to triple-A Braves games last year and had just as much fun watching them because they were playing baseball. The single-A Braves in Rome are fun to watch, too.
Yes – the expectation of watching Tiger or Phil play is greater than anybody else on the Tour, but if they aren’t there, why not enjoy the guys that are there ?
The thing that bothers me most about the Tiger and Phil-centric media is that if Tiger or Phil had hit that bunker shot Palmer hit on Saturday – the shot would be on ESPN top 10’s and we would be watching it on Golf Central for at least a week, and it would be hailed as the greatest bunker shot of all time.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I don't cheat myself, I watch! I watch the Nationwide Tour....
I know I’m beating a dead horse here… The only reason the media is Tiger and Phil-centric (good expression) is Tiger and Phil win, and win often. If someone, anyone, were to start winning 3, 4 or five times a season, I guarantee they would not be ignored by the media. I can only think of two sports franchises that have received exceptional coverage with less than stellar records: The Chicago Cub and Michelle Wie. If Ryan Palmer wins three or four times this year and maybe a major, we’ll revisit “Palmer-mania”….

How about Steve Stricker??
I read several “year in review” articles on the 2009 season and not once was Stricker mentioned – Stricker had a 3 win season (4 if you count the Shark Shootout!) , he was 2nd on the money list, 3rd on the OWGR, having a very good statistical chance of winning the Fed Ex Cup, and had the best putting average for 2009 – -as my favorite player, I was so looking forward to Stricker getting the accolades he deserved…only to get see him passed over time and again. Sure, he gets the usual, “nicest guy on Tour” nod often, but in my completely subjective opinion, he deserved a lot more attention than he got in 2009 because the media would rather talk about Tiger/Phil or controversy rather than good play.

Steve Stricker
RT, I couldn’t agree with you more. I was a Stricker fan when he came out on tour. His wife was his caddie. He had some fine early career success and then WHAM! off the charts… then a comeback of epic proportion. It’s the kind of thing everyone wants to see from David Duval… But the hellish thing is professional golf is often about the sizzle not the steak. Very little emotion, no conflict, no drama hence no spotlight. I’d bet this is the one time in golf history the #3 player in the world could go anywhere without being recognized. Some how I don’t see that as a bad thing….
Very little emotion
Except for when he wins…and cries. I love that. I’m such a girl.
I guess in terms of living life, it’s good for Stricker to be incognito, but for some reason it just bugs me that he doesn’t get a little more buzz. I’ve predicted that he’s going win the PGA this year in WI!! :-)
I write about golf at www.tees2greens.com, too.
Lee Janzen used to cry too.....nothing wrong
with that, especially since I’m a crier. I cried with Tiger when he won the Open after his dad died, I cried when Phil won his Masters…. I cried when…..oh, forget that one…..I still cry when I see a replay of Jack’s 86 Masters………If the Saints go to the Superbowl, I’ll probably cry for a week…..so whatz up with that???? I’ve got a tee shirt that says “Real Men Cry”, but I’ve never been brave enough to wear it…..go figure.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
I second that!

Lucky devils!
I just wish I could have watched it in the first place – not the same watching it 24 hours later when you already know the results from the PGA site. AND you had the fun of Fantasy which was pointless for me for these first two tournaments.
