FL Lawmaker Wants Probe of Bogus Tiger Woods' Child Abuse Call
Ryan is going to have a heart attack. I'm blogging on some Tiger news. From AP:
A Florida lawmaker has called for an investigation into who phoned a hot line with a bogus claim that Tiger Woods' children were being abused.
The anonymous accusation last month was quickly rejected by Florida officials. But Republican state Sen. Ronda Storms wants officials, if possible, to prosecute the person.
A Department of Children and Families spokesman said Monday that a false report is difficult to prove unless the person confesses, but it result in civil or criminal penalties.
"False reporting is a very serious offense and takes precious time away from vulnerable citizens who truly need protection," spokesman Joe Follick said. "It is a crime and a frustration to the investigator and healthy families."
"A frustration to healthy families" is a understatement. My wife and I are godparents to an almost 7-year-old boy named Alexander Joseph, or AJ for short. AJ is the son of close friends of ours.
In 2005, AJ's mother took her oldest daughter to a nearby school to register her for some program. While she was doing this, a school secretary* spent time with my godson. A day later Florida DCS workers and Lantana Police were at the family's house to investigate a child abuse complaint.
The secretary saw dark splotches on AJ's skin and thought this was a sign of abuse. They were birthmarks, not uncommon to some Asian children - my godson is Filipino and dark skinned like his parents. AJ spent so much time over at my house when he was little. I'd know if he was abused. Leonita vouched for the family to a Lantana Police Captain we know. Ultimately nothing came of the investigation, but because of some ignorant nitwit (I'd use harsher language but I don't want to be censored (Ryan: good idea)) a family and my wife Leonita were put through hell for a few days.
Abuse allegations are anonymous, including the bogus ones. We're 90% sure who filed the one against our friends, because of the strange way that evil busybody behaved on seeing AJ. The Woods are not likely to be as lucky.
I'll also add that Storms should concentrate on her real legislative duties. Unless she wants to follow up on all DCS complaints filed in her district, she's a busybody of another type.

It’s interesting, for sure. She’s using a very public person’s situation to make a very public point – these things will not be tolerated.
The situation your family went through happens all too often because these “gubmint” employees are ordered to report anything that looks vaguely like abuse, because if they don’t and it turns out that it was, they could get sued. Common sense be damned – call the police – it’s all about the Benjamins.

Common sense
now there is a word. We in Britain have had a bad winter as far as we are concerned. But in the politicly correct mad world we are in, if we clear the pavement outside our house and someone slips…they can sue me ! Let them try i say…but it shows how daft we have become.
My neighbour
says she’ll break both my legs and kill my cat if I try that one on her. She loves my cat so I don’t believe her.
Shown on local TV couple days ago, 200+ people cleared one of our side roads/pavements running down steep Portsdown Hill – organised by an ex-serviceman (quite high rank). When asked about being sued – there was a bleep! I think he spoke for us all.
Mind you – social services can’t get it right for trying. If they take children away, they’re accused of breaking up families; if they don’t , they’re accused of letting children die. Sadly, too many examples of the latter over here lately.
and yet…so many Americans still think copying the European system is a good idea…we just don’t learn
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Other way around – the US is moving to a United States Union. Socialized everything – rampant government “services” trying to fix everybody’s problems.

I’ve seen the video from Canadian and UK health care – we’ve already talked about social services taking kids away from families…taxes…taxes…taxes…there is no end to it. You cannot tax a country into prosperity.

Court....Obammmmmmmmmmmmma
doesn’t want to tax our country in prosperity……he wants to tax us into submission.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
"I've see THE video ..."
Please!
Sure – you’ll find negative comments re our NHS (e.g. bureacracy, wait to see doctor if no emergency, dirty wards – all true) the frankly ridiculous scare stories (like the one that 77-yr old Ted Kennedy would not have received treatment for his brain tumour in the UK) but we’re equally scandalised by stories coming the other way (infant mortality rate at 6.3%, 70% bankruptcies in America caused by medical bills, 47 million live in fear of getting ill because they cannot afford medical bills, etc, etc). I have no idea whether these are true facts or “damn statistics” but you see how easy it is to scare people?
“To us it is unimaginable that a doctor would order a scan, pills, an invasive test, an operation even, not based on whether it would make us well but on how much he can charge.”
If Medicare and Medicaid for the poor is so expensive that it will bankrupt the country, surely there must be a way for the US to cherry-pick from health systems across the world ? I know and totally understand that the UK/Canadian health care systems are anathema to the US, but I don’t see how you can stick with the status quo either.
I’ll tell you one thing though, if there were referenda in UK/Canada, more than 90% would vote to retain our systems, warts and all.
lol – really ? A story that Ted Kennedy wouldn’t have gotten treatment in the UK ? Now that’s funny. “Royalty” always gets priority.
I always get a kick out of the “47 million without health insurance” stories – all false. These are people who include illegal aliens (estimated between 12 and 20 million – mostly Mexican), plus young people and college students who choose not to buy insurance. The real number is said to be between 12 and 14 million – which begs the question – why not deal with that number instead of 47 million – and the answer is obviously “shock value”.
Medicare and Medicade have long since topped the trillion dollar mark – which hundreds of times what it was “supposed” to cost when it was a bill of goods sold to us by LBJ. It’s a nightmare.
You can keep your system – the US is not the UK and vice versa. People left the UK to get away from oppressive government…yet here we are again…voting for oppressive government. go figure.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Not to mention, no one can be turned down
for needed health care…..ability to pay has no bearing on who gets care. As for the 70% bankruptcy number, I’ve never heard that but if it is true, it is because bankruptcy is an easy way out. Most hospitals and doctors will take very minimal monthly payments. The health care system does need improving, but what we are getting is another government boondoggle….. designed increase the “entitlement” mentality of our country.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
That's exactly my point, Court
about how easy it is to run scare stories which people take as gospel truth (and note that I did NOT take the stories re US as such).
I also made the point that I knew and understood that the UK NHS is anathema to US. In no way have I suggested foisting our system on you.
I suggested you could cherry-pick across the world.
Please re-read my post when you are in a less aggressive/defensive mode. Hitting out at the UK simply because you disagree with me (and we haven’t actually got any disagreement anyway) is beneath you.
I was aggressive/defensive ? (I didn’t even know that was possible) :-) This is why I don’t get into long relationships – I give a few facts and, instead of just saying “you’re right”, women run to emotional responses like that. Oh well.
Why would I cherry pick around the world ? We were just talking about the US and UK – and I do realize we were agreeing.

by the way – that ex-serviceman is a GREAT Englishman – good for him – I hope a lot of people will follow his example.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Must be in the blood.
I’m an ex serviceman and cleared 8 paths for some of the elderly around our way. Let some fool sue I say. And it had nothing to do with me being 2 stone overwieght and needing exercise either, lol.
and here we thought it was to impress that young hottie across the street. (lol)
I think that’s great of you Eas – hope they’ll invite you over for a dram ! Is it warming up over there at all ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
The hottie across the street
can do her own, shes only 23, lol. It’s snowing in the south( Wendy’s place) but it isn’t too bad here at the moment. Might get snow Saturday night, but it’ll go up to 5 c this weekend…and not before time !
Honest - these old 'uns!
Light snow last night and today.
Friend called to ask if I wanted to go shopping in a town near her. Asked if she planned to send a helicopter for me. She was astounded that we still have snow as they now have none at all further along the south coast.
Keep asking ancient neighbour if she wants any shopping done, only to be told she has already been out. When I do go out street is full of wrinklies with walking canes who insist that it was worse in 62/63 (and something called “The Blitz” JK! )
did you offer to give her your shopping list and a few bob to go out for you ? :-D
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Love it ..........
but I’ll get my husband to ask (just in case she wasn’t kidding about the broken legs).
Thinks
Mmm, broken legs …..man ….broken legs …man ….QED
Actually he loves the idea too and plans to ask her tomorrow. I shall be observing from the landing window.
Hey all,
back to the ridiculous with the child protective services….My wife was very ill for several years, in and out of the hospital…One time when in, I don’t remember the exact conversation, but she made a remark in jest, that “he beats me once a week”….The Nurse doing the paper work put that in her report….I didn’t think anything of the remark, but every time I came to visit, a nurse was in the room with us….The Nursing Supervisor finally asked my wife about it, and you can imagine her reply…we were partners for 54 years before I lost her…That remark the nurse had made, stayed in her paperwork for 9 years before getting cleared up…just goes to show how careful one has to be…STUB
truly amazing – and sad. just a little common sense and sense of humor tells you that’s an old husband/wife joke.
54 years – she must’ve been a great woman.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
My wife of 20 years
beats me every time we play scrabble. How embarrassing is that, English is her second language.
With I click post, what I just wrote will become a permanent record.
Stub....Thanks for the story and sharing
with us a little about a very special lady. My wife and I are at 36 years, and I would do it all over again.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
Special??
yup, never did understand what she saw in me outside of my boyish good looks, devil may care attitude and ………STUB
