Would You Rather Visit Obama, Play Golf With Him, Or Berate Him?
The victorious ladies of the US Solheim Cup team are heading into my back yard today, as they'll be in town for a two day visit. (Ladies, skip the monuments and go to Ben's Chili Bowl.) Included in the visit will be some time at the White House with golf crazy President Barack Obama. I'm sure there will be a tour of the Presidential house and photo opps for a lifetime of memories.
But, is that really the best possible prize? Would it be more fun to play golf with President Obama, especially since these ladies would whoop his tail? Heck, I would expect to be able to give the Commander in Chief at least three per side.
Or for the far right leaning ladies of the LPGA Tour, whoever they may be, being in the same room with the many who signed a nearly trillion dollar stimulus bill may sicken them.
Since we won't find out what they think, I'll poll you instead. Which would you rather?

The hyperbole is really getting tired. Especially when it’s thrown around with such a broad brush. ( “…whoever they may be…”) Why does someone have to be “far right leaning” to realize that someone is doing very bad things to this country ? The Chairman was losing public support from people who fell for his act during the election, and now he’s losing support from Congress.
Are you thinking a 13-some (actually a 16-some with coaches) on the first tee ? :-D If you have to spend time with the guy, better to spend it on the golf course than to give him any kind of publicity in a political setting. At least there are fewer cameras around.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Perhaps it comes from calling the President of the United States “The Chairman.” I would be surprised if you hadn’t taken umbrage from people calling W a similar name.
This is symptomatic of the mutually assured destruction style of politics practiced in the US today, one that assures little if any true cooperation for the good of the country.

would you prefer "Dear Leader" ? :-)
If Obama were just another Bill Clinton or George W, I might agree with you – but he isn’t. And the scariest part ? He didn’t really hide what he is during his campaign – the media just refused to expose him for what he is. His philosophies, mentors, and campaign strategies were right out in the open.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
The media – which media? Was it not covered and covered well on the most popular of cable news networks ad nauseum? Was it not covered in conservative circles like RCP and NRO?
by Charles Boyer on Jan 12, 2010 10:24 AM EST up reply actions
No – it wasn’t covered at all in ANY of the major media outlets – including Fox (since they are the “evil” right wing conspiratory side of the media). You never heard the direct philosophical connections to Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky. (Rules for Radicals). His campaign directly followed these two books.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
really?
would you please share your sources for that information? or do you just throw out scary names and hope no one will challenge you?
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
D – you and I have been through this before – I even posted the tenets of the Communist Manifesto and showed you how Obama was following them. Alinsky’s book taught him how to use scare tactics, and how to promote crises to their best benefit. The books ARE the sources, dear.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
and all the republican strategists that spent the better part of a year looking for the slightest wedge to get the masses to vote for McCain failed to make the connections you have. have I got that right?
republicans can’t govern, but they sure know how to create nonexistent wedge issues and use them to their best advantage during a campaign. they should have been paying you the big bucks all along, huh?
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
you keep assuming I’m a Republican. I lived in Arizona for 2 years – respected McCain’s war record, but despised his politics…still do. You see Obama as a good choice because he isn’t W (who wasn’t even in the race – but that little fact kept getting ignored), and because McCain wasn’t a seriously viable option. The problem I have is that people flocked to Obama without knowing anything about the guy. Red flags all over the place (double entendre intended) – and nobody wanted to hear about it because he was young and pretty and could read a speech off of a teleprompter really well. (I’m still amazed that the environmentalist whackos didn’t protest him for all those signs he had xeroxed) (j/k)
Elected for the wrong reasons – and inside of a month, he proved the critics right – a trillion dollars in new debt with 6 to 7 trillion more in the plans. Bowing to Muslim leaders. Ignoring allies. Ignoring the history of government run health care in this country. And we’re just a year in.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
so that's why you kept that information to yourself...
I know you’re not a republican.
I suppose your solution to the mess in which Bush left the country would have been to cut taxes for the wealthiest, eliminate social security and medicare, and nuke every country populated by brown people.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
again…HUH ?
oh – by the way – now your boy Barry wants to start charging a fee to banks…is he really that dumb ? does he not know that businesses don’t pay taxes and they pass fees along to customers ? or is he once again licking his finger and putting it up into the political wind to see what will make the dumb-masses get back on his side ? (no – he’s not that dumb)

Ryan, you’re not old enough to remember any president before Clinton so you probably wouldn’t know that almost every president has used the White House, including sleep-over privileges, to influence people. It wasn’t until the Lee Atwater/Roger Ailes smear machine kicked into high gear after Clinton won the election in ’92 that the corporate media started slinging arrows about the practice.
Why would you still be jabbing at Clinton? He’s been gone for a decade. Oh, wait… Fox Noise blames him for everything Bush did wrong to this day, so how could you forget.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
huh ? The White House B&B has been a target of jokes and attacks since JFK. The joke was about the philanderer in chief…though it was the Oval Office, not the Lincoln bedroom. Jokes you can’t make about W because he wasn’t chasing interns around the White House…and they aren’t being made about Barry, either…good for him.

TGC Musings
I was over at TGC this morning, leaving a comment here and there. I was struck by the variety of opinion. For better or worse I don’t see that here at waggleroom. Like that self fulfilling prophesy thing, I’ve got a pretty good idea about how most of the comments will go on this article. Pretty much like waving a red flag in front of a bull. When things get slow nothing like mentioning Obama to get things going again….
Survey Says!
What a surprise…. No one wants to tour the White House…
Since I have done it multiple times (through the regular public tour) I personally have little interest in doing it again.’
Offer me a tour of the NSA’s computer center, however, and you have a horse of a different color.
by Charles Boyer on Jan 12, 2010 10:10 AM EST up reply actions
I’ll second that ! NASA is one of THE best tours going.
In DC ? White House once is good – but I liked the Treasury, FBI, Museum of Natural History, and Science muserum tours better.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
NSA – National Security Agency.
As for NASA, I usually go with Dad and we don’t do the public tour. We go see his old friends that haven’t yet retired at KSC. In fact, we are going tor the Shuttle launch after this one and we’re planning on going to the pad itself a few days prior.

Ryan was being a wise ass by adding “including the Lincoln Bedroom.”

I would...
there is a lot of history there…I wouldn’t cut my nose off to spite my face just because i didn’t agree with the President in power at the time.
Honestly, the best tour I’ve ever taken was of the Library of Congress. Self-guided, but fascinating, especially to see Jefferson’s library of books that was the foundation for the Library.

23 comments and not a single LOL or LMAO…. Just one emoticon ( :-) ) This is some serious stuff for a golf blog… Bill Clinton’s putative priapism had a lot more comedic value…
about once a month CG and I will get into it, been going on for years. we have hardly any differences of opinion about golf, but watch out when it turns political. 8-)

Court,
how about the return of the TIGAR and he plays pro-ams with the Prez…even gives him some friendly tips, (golf that is)…do you think that would do it?? and I’ll tell ya right now, I’d rather have D on my side than agin me…Easing…if you pay enough, you too could sleep in the Lincoln bedroom…used by all the big donors….STUB
just what tips is Barry going to give to Tiger on golf ? OH ! You meant the other way… :-) Can you just see the legion of Secret Service agents on the course for a Barry O Pro Am appearance ? Hundreds of guys in bermuda shorts, black socks, sunglasses, and earwhigs…and when some joker yells “GET IN THE HOLE !”, one of the runs out and really puts his ball in the hole.

I’ve just got my new sticks, remember ? Overtime beckons.
The Bob Hope
I went to Hope a couple of times. The day the Presidents played must have been a nightmare for Security. Saw a lot of guys in jackets and ties on a hot day in the Coachella Valley. Sort of takes the “secret” our of Secret Service.
Secret or not...
…I wouldn’t tangle with anyone who’s conditioned to turn themselves broadside into a bullet. Those guys are badass, to say the least.

One more thing.....
Not unlike the TGC polls, looks like you can vote here again and again… But I’m sure Ryan’s go a disclaimer somewhere about this not being a scientific survey and “for entertainment purposes only”.
I found this Obama quote today…
“_The president said Tiger Woods, the champion golfer who has fallen into disgrace amid reports of extramarital affairs, can be “rehabilitated,” as his interviewer put it. “Absolutely,” Obama said. “I don’t want to comment on his personal relationship with his wife and family, but I’m a strong believer that anybody can look within themselves, find their flaws and fix them.”
…I sure hope the POTUS checked with courtgolf before answering suck a speculative question!
Real quick – and I’ll try to use small words for you – that’s not speculation – the marital infidelity is not speculation anymore…or did you miss that part ? Barry was being supportive…though that word “rehabilitated” had to be put into the telestrator by Michelle. :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Court....Teleprompter, Telepromper.....we do not need
Barry with a telestrator……that would be scary beyond belief. I can just hear him saying “Let me be clear”…..while drawing stick figures on the telestrator……ugh.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
you guys are silly
St. Ronnie, the great communicator, used a teleprompter. Is the problem that President Obama is the first BLACK president to use one?
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
em – did you say anthing about race ? I didn’t. I think D’s a racist !! :-D JUST kidding, D – we evil conservatives don’t get to throw that line around very much.
…by the way…did you notice the hypocrisy on the democrat side ? burn the republican at the stake for making a weak racial joke…brand him a racist…but Barry steps to the rescue for the democrat…oh…it was just a mistake…right)
and you’re wrong – Barry’s the second black president to use the teleprompter…don’t forget…the black caucus declared Clinton to be the first black president ! :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
diane.....
I’m not as nice as Court. Your suggestion that my disliking Obammmmmmma is somehow based on race is not only offensive, but ignorant on your part. You are typical of the “tolerant” left wing elitist that has to inject race into every argument. As for me, the list of things that cause me a “Problem” with Barry is long and race is not on it. Try finding another argument that makes sense.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
fine
But neither of you answered the teleprompter issue. The only difference between Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush using a teleprompter and Obama using one is what?
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
I mean beside the fact that you and the conservative media never complained about it when the white guys used one.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
be serious, D – did you vote for him because of the color of his skin ?
Who has been the subject of all the teleprompter jokes ? Not Reagan, Not Bush, Not Clinton, Not Bush. Obama is not a good off the cuff speaker. If he can read a speech, he is very good. If he can do an interview with memorized answers – he’s fine. But if you get off subject – he struggles.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Because the others could actually
speak coherently without one. Did you know that Palin’s “prompter” went out half way through her convention speech??? She didn’t miss a beat. We don’t know if Reagan or Clinton or Bush’s prompter went blank. Now we have seen Barry’s prompter go out a couple of times and he stands there with a blank look on his face and manages a few “duhs” every so often. So, since we didn’t answer your question you just naturally throw out the “racist” thing….very typical of someone who has nothing else to back up their position.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
he stands there with a blank look on his face and manages a few "duhs" every so often
Prove it. YouTube has every public word he’s ever uttered so it ought to be easy, right?

Don't have too, I've seen it.
Of course you haven’t seen it because you only watch the Obama Media and they don’t show anything negative about him. Try watching Fox News, as they present all sides of issues. I’m not gonna waste time looking for it, because as I said I’ve seen it….so now you can call me a liar as well as racist.

I haven’t called you any names, so far.
Now I’ll use one though. If you think Fox presents all sides then you’re gullible.

the real issue...
If Obama cured cancer conservatives would want to know why he hates chemotherapy. He’s really pretty middle of the road but you guys complain about everything.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
middle of the road ? If you’re talking about an 8 lane divided highway – he MIGHT be in the second lane from the left – but if you think this guy is “middle of the road” – you’re nuts. This has nothing to do with left and right – pay attention – this Svengali has sold out this country to China and Muslim countries. We are in debt to foreign powers to unprecidented levels – we may never get out of debt – which means the Chinese OWN this country.
you spent all that time complaining about W’s “war mongering” – yet you say nothing about Barry looking for another 3/4 of a TRILLION dollars for his wars. Record setting.
It’s not right and left – it’s right and wrong. he has no interest in upholding the Constitution.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Diane.....kinda like you guys living safely
the last 7 years but complaining about everything W did to keep us safe….tell us, do you feel as safe today, since Barry has cozyed up to his Muslim friends. Two attacks in the last few months and he finally has used the word terrorist…..what a moron.
Saints are killing me!!!!!!!!
We probably agree very little about anything related to politics, socio-economics or religion. But I will never intentionally call you a name or question your loyalty. We hang out at WR because of our addiction to golf. If we occasionally get off track, into those subjects that stir emotions, that’s OK, cause it’s all in fun.
The thing about people in other countries, particularly in the middle east, is that they have long memories and they’re patient. Bush attacked a country that had nothing to do with anything. People in the middle east view that as an attack on Islam, especially when he used words like “crusade.” Invading Iraq for no good reason (please don’t give me the WMD bullsh*t, it was about oil, and done so incompetently we haven’t even gotten that) has irritated every Muslim to some degree.
Contrary to what Bush said, the 9/11 attacks occurred not because “they hate our freedom” but because of our policies in the middle east. People there hate the fact that the US puts its military anywhere it pleases, props up despots, and takes whatever it wants. They hate our unconditional support of Israeli aggression and refusal to accept a reasonable “two state” solution. We used to have friends in the middle east, besides the Saudi royal family. Today, not so much. You whine about the president showing respect for foreign leaders in an attempt to repair some of the damage Bush did but you don’t seem to care about Bush kissing and holding hands with the Saudi Prince. The least you could do is be freaking consistent.
We will reap the results of our actions in the middle east for a long, long time. I don’t choose live in fear over it. If you choose to do so, that’s your business.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
the US puts bases any where it pleases ? sigh – since when is an invitation playing big brother to the world ?
personally – I have no problem with us pulling our bases around the world and bringing them home…preferably in one really long base along the Mexican border. most of these countries who beg for our protection and money have spent the last 25 years calling us all kinds of names…until the next international bully pops up and they come crawling to us again.
I’m with you D – bring home the troops – let THEM fight it out – but first – let’s evict all these anti-American “diplomats” from the UN building. Yes – that UN building that WE paid to build and WE pay to keep up and WE pay to protect.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I was in Bahrain. We had some time so I asked the guy who fueled the airplane what he thought of the US Fifth Fleet being headquartered there. He was brutally honest and seemed to represent the opinion of other Bahrainis. The US isn’t there to protect Bahrain.
In the nuclear age, the existence of the UN reduces the likelihood that another “international bully” will pop up. The fact that post-Stalin USSR and the US could stand toe-to-toe in that venue probably prevented us from blowing each other to smithereens. With all its faults, and they are legion, the UN serves a very necessary purpose. Having it in the US isn’t such a bad thing. Are you that easily offended by “anti-American” rhetoric?
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
ok – so you asked ONE Bahrainian what he thought – and you got a ridiculous answer…so that becomes truth in your book. Correct ? Are you SURE that you didn’t look at the guy with a raised eyebrow as soon as your common sense kicked in and asked if he REALLY believed that if anybody attacked Bahrain, that the US wouldn’t protect them ? Do you think Kuwaitis thought the same way ? Oh wait – we mobilized all four of our armed forces to beat Hussein back into Iraq.
And THEN, the UN was invented…right ? Are you SURE that Hussein wasn’t causing trouble AFTER the UN was in place ? How’s the UN doing on that piracy thing ? How about Al Kaida ? How about Bosnia ? How about Tibet ? Are you SURE that the UN is doing what you think they’re doing ? Sure seems like every time a problem comes up, it’s the US that is called on to go do the dirty work.
I’d really suggest that you pay a little more attention to what kind of things are said about the US in the UN, and pay a little more attention to how the US is pressed out of important committees…and pay a LOT more attention to treaties that try to override our Constitution that come out of the UN. How about that lovely pollution treaty that we keep getting beat over the head with – but WE are the only ones who are ahead of those requirements while Japan and China ignore the treaty ? Oops.

You and the president should have a sit down to discuss the finer points of the Constitution seeing as you’re both Constitutional Law scholars.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
LOVE to ! we’ll start with Constitution 101 where you actually READ the Constitution so you know what you put your hand on the bible and took the oath of office to uphold.

You know he was a Senior Lecturer in Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago for 12 years, right? I think he’s read it a time or two and understands what it says.
By the way, you know that the Constitution means what the Supreme Court says it means, right? Unless five-ninths of the court are Originalists, it’s a living document.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
And yet – he has been on a non-stop rampage, disregarding every possible clause he can ?
Actually – you’re wrong – the Supreme Court is in place to uphold the constitution – not that they have been doing what they were intended to do since the 30’s. Thank FDR for the idea of loading the court with the purpose of doing an end run around the legislature and the Constiturion.

So, I guess we now know what time of day Diane smokes her dope……One guy who fuels a plane speaks for a nation???……gotta luv it. I was at the Post Office the other day and I asked the guy who sorts mail what he thought about Obama……He was brutally honest and he seemed to represent the opinion of other Americans. Obama isn’t there to help America.
I don’t have time right now to respond to all the other brilliant comments…..but as Arnold would say…..I’ll be back.

Accually, funding the Un is met by all countries, the top 10 being..
1. USA 22% (of the budget for ‘09)
2. Japan 16.624%
3. Germany 8.577%
4. UK 6.642%
5. France 6.301%
6. Italy 5.079%
7. Canada 2.977%
8. Spain 2.968%
9. China 2.667%
10.Mexico 2.257%
Other member states 23.908%
So as you can see, it’s not just the US who pays…and the UN building like and embassy is not home soil…in fact in the UN’s case, the building is classed international soil. So if the world wants to carry on trying to get on, this had better stay. No more talk about "let them sort it any more…the world is too small now.
thanks, Easing
I was hoping this wasn’t just a three person race to the bottom. 8-)

22% – we put in the most to the budget – and we are the target of way too many third world and socialist countries.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I know court..
and I’m on your side, but you have to admit, we in the west exploit the rest of the world for our own ends…it’s bound to create some resentment in the world.
Also, when you look at Japan
with a population of 127 m people against the USA with 308m people, they put in more per head than the USA. so in that sense, the USA per head is not the biggest contributor..indeed the UK per head puts in more than does the USA. As the USA has 31% of the worlds wealth, their contribution is smaller than it looks.
No Prob, D..
Sometimes, It’s easy for America to feel like the fall guy in the world. But as the USA has only 4.67% of the world’s population and 31.49% of it’s GDP, I think being the so called “world’s policemen” is something to expect rather than resent.
I thought after the lessons of the last century there would be no isolationists left. I was wrong.
There’s a difference between being the police and being a bully. Too often we’ve been the latter.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
you missed the correct answer – the US isn’t always right – but we aren’t the bully OR the police. We’re the ones who get called when the real bullies rear their ugly heads.
You want to talke about the last century – two world wars, countless takeovers by communist countries, and natural disasters galore. Nobody does more when a call goes out for help than the US.
If you believe that we should let the little third world countries that have proven again and again that they can’t run their own tiny corners of the wold tell us how to do things – you’re nuts.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
The ultimate bully empire-wise
was Britain. For a country to be rich, it has to be able to exploit it’s population ( China ) who undercuts the world. For the rest to be rich ( the West ) they have to be able to exploit the world…no one did it better than the Brits. But like any Empire, it can’t substain itself forever, and it has to let go. Today, the world IMO, is too small to do anything but to work together, but there will be a few more battles to win before that happens.
I concure....but
here’s the problem with the way things are being done…the people in charge of the government are trying to run roughshod over the people who do the work and try to play by the rules while letting the bad people do whatever they want. We have left wingers running around screaming for gun control…but that’s only for people who obey the law. They want “free” health care – which doesn’t exist…nothing is free…but want a minority of the population to pay for it, along with everything else. Welfare is rampant with no plan or intent to get people off of it – which means they WANT people under their thumb. Instead of removing the illegal aliens and putting people to work – we have politicians who want to give them citizenship…which translates into votes that keep them in power.
any of this sound familiar ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
The trouble is in America
is that 1 % of families owns 31 % of the wealth there …the top 10% of families own 71% …and 40 % owns less than 1 %…thats not all down to being lazy on a welfare state. That kind of imbalance will always cause problems. The West as a whole would probably have simular figures.
Now that an issue....
Has surfaced which required swift, and definitive action by the President. We have seen the leadership the White House was missing during the previous regime. The reaction to the Earthquake in Haiti shows the strength and resolve our president really has. I remember the lack of leadership the previous President showed when a natural disaster happened right in our own country. Katrina showed the utter disconnect of the Bush administration. New Orleans not only was hit by Katrina as was the rest of the Gulf Coast, but it was then devastated by the levee breaking, and essentially washing the city away. The World watched as nothing Presidential was done by our “leadership.” We witnessed the pictures and images from the Superdome. Where was our President? Where was the relief those people needed. Right here at home in one of our own Cities. We witnessed our President reading to pre-school students while terrorist flew planes into the World Trade Center. Just sitting there looking lost, and weak. Then we had to hear from others about the incident, because our “leader” was flying around on Air Force One. So now, as our President tries to restore our countries good name, and proud standing in the World community. What do we do? We sit and make jokes about teleprompters, and lanes on highways. In the year our current president has been in office more un-manned drones have been used to hunt and kill terrorists than the last 7 years of the Bush administration. But here we hear jokes, and silliness. I am glad we have a President who wants Healthcare reform, so every American can one day have affordable healthcare. I’m proud that the day after a catastrophic Earthquake hit Haiti, that my president had an Aircraft carrier, and other resources on the scene. I am proud that “our” President received the Nobel Peace Prize, because it restores our country as the World Leader in fairness, and Peacefulness. I’m honored to be a veteran now, because i know our troops are being deployed and used for just reasons; instead of self-serving and mis-guided reasons. I am confident that when our troops return home from SERVING their country that they won’t have to go to a military hospital in the condition that Walter Reed hospital was in under the previous admistration. I am confident that our troops aren’t torturing and humiliating detainees under the orders of their “leaders” now. I am also assured that our agents around the world aren’t being instructed to torture prisoners, and use practices like (rendition) to attain information. Yes i am proud to be an American today, and i Thank my fellow Americans for electing a President whose mission is to serve his country from the highest office. I thank “our” President for the change he has given us, and the promise of more to come. God Bless Him.
