SBS Championship, Final Round - Game Thread

The season opener for the PGA Tour closes today at Kapalua with the final round of the SBS Championship.  Scoring was decidedly muted in Saturday's third round as compared to the torrid pace of the opening 36 holes.  Lucas Glover remains the leader of the tournament, but by just one shot.  Having fired a round of 71 (-2) on Saturday, he is one clear of defending champion Geoff Ogilvy.

Martin Laird and Ryan Moore are within striking distance as well.

Some questions for the final round:

  • Can Lucas Glover go wire-to-wire and pick up his third career win?
  • Will Geoff Ogilvy channel his 2009 win in this event and usurp the title from Glover?
  • Can Heath Slocum break par?
  • With early scoring appearing to be high, will any of the players more than three back have a chance?

Also, you can chat with Geoff Ogilvy's coach, Dale Lynch, during the final nine holes of the telecast. It starts at 7:45pm ET. The video stream will be shown below, but there is also a live chat that can be accessed here.

usurp?

Sorry Ryan, you can’t usurp a title from the other guy unless he holds it…. Now Lucas could usurp the title from Geoff.

El Duck

I still like his chances tonight. He played great all 3 days so far and left a few out htere yesterday including a 3 footer on the 18th.

“high scoring” is relative – 17 mph Kona winds down on the beach – so the long, downhill holes are going to be exceptionally long and tough. If you have wondered why the fairways are so wide – this weather is why.

If they rolled the greens again today, putting is going to be trecherous.

has it right…When the Kona winds are up, this makes for entirely different golf than they had the first 2 days…You saw it yesterday in the 3rd round, and stronger winds today…Having played in Hawaii for many years, and on many of the courses, I can attest to how fast conditions change to ruin your round…oh sob, sob…memory is cruel…STUB

Whew.

The Golf Channel is promoting the hell out of Being John Daly. The premise of the show is as follows:

There’s a certain free-standing ATM in a strip club in Panama City Beach, Florida, that conceals a remarkable secret. Behind this ATM there is a portal – not even the dancers know it’s there. But if you muscle the ATM to the side and enters this portal, you find yourself inside the head of John Daly, seeing the things John Daly sees, and feeling th things John Daly feels.

The first thing you’ll notice upon gaining access to Daly’s head is an almost unbearable craving for a Marlboro Light and a Diet Coke. Don’t worry, though – in Daly’s world, these things are never more than 90 seconds away.

I don’t want to give away all the secrets, so I’ll end this synopsis here. Just be forewarned that after spending 10 minutes in Daly’s head, you are unceremoniously dumped in a ditch beside US Hwy 98.

Oh, and if you go looking for the portal, tell Sunny I said “hey.”

What in the world happened to Lucas Glover?! And Ogilvy is doing a great job right now. And the Bad Guy Rory Sabbatini lit it up!

Now they have Faldo doing it..

…he’s making an excellent point about preshot routines and these boneheads have affected his brain and he said that Nicklaus took 1/3 of a second to play his shot from the time he pulled the club out of the bag. now that’s fast.

RB – those Kona winds really screwed him up. His tee shot at 6 finished the job. 26 guys today kept the ball in the fairway – but he and Ogilvy both hit into the hazard on the right. amazing.

well – tough call…that “Nick” O’Hair, as Tilghman calls him, is a good kid…

Another Tilghman line – “Lucas Glover is still trying to win on the PGA Tour while holding the lead.” So he won the US Open without having the lead ? Who had the lowest score ?

LMAO !! “What does Ogilvy do better than Tiger ?” Well, Kelly…umm…his Aussie accent comes to mind…and he gets better service at the IHOP.

PHENOMINAL finish in Arizona. Really glad that Adams got to make that last play after being picked on all night.

That was awful to watch. We played so well on defense all year and just gave up a ton of plays over the middle. On the plus side, we didn’t get penalized much.

YAY Matt!!

This is my weakness in Fantasy golf…I can’t help but pick the guys I like instead of picking the guys who might win! I’m not sure if I could ever put Sabbatini on my roster.

I hope this is not the kiss of death – last year I was first after week 1 – I think I was 30th after about week 5 and never improved…I am going to have to Focus this year!! :-)

Very nice finish Em…did you switch out guys at all during the tourney? This week may be different now that we have a cut – time to do some golf research for the week!

What an embarassment!! Heard on the first tee: GO: Hey Bubba, I’ll give you 4 shots a side for ten grand… LG: Absolutely!!!!……….Later walking off the 18th green.. LG: You’ll take a check right? How do y’all spell Ogilvy, 2 “e’s” or one? LOL, LOL, LOL. Next week the real show begins! The new John Daly (on a sponsor’s exemption) is back. Glover’s tempo gets a little quick and his putting was real erratic. I felt bad for him, but an all around good week for him.

funny how that happens. when the course was playing the way it was designed to play (trade winds blowing), Glover was cruising – but when the Kona winds kicked in and the greens got rolled, he went the other way. Same thing in the opposite direction for Sabbatini – he went crazy in the Kona winds.

I was really impressed with Ogilvy’s interview after the round. He thinks he figured some things out that caused him so much trouble last year with his inconsistent play. I hope this means he’s going to have a very good season and make a run up the rankings.

Yada Yada Yada

Good Lawwwwwwwwwwwwwwdy , I felt like Tiger falling from grace yesterday. I went from Fantasy Golfs Worlds #1 to 18th in one day. YIKES !!! And I didn’t even have any indiscressions. It’s all good as it’s gonna be a long season. I though Cabrera would do a lot better yesterday, he left a bunch of shorties out there on the greens. Goosen, disaster, Ryan, Moore, he’s still young yet. GLOVER,, sheeesh bad bad. A lot of fans do not like Sabatini, but I do. He is no coward and always plays aggresive golf. Sure had a nice 63 yesterday. Good tournament and I’m glad I signed up for Fantasy Golf. Now lets hope I have more luck in Vegas..jumpn/progolf
