Check out this YouTube video shot of President Obama stopping in the middle of his golf round MidPacific Country Club Golf Course in Kailua yesterday to chat with some of the folks who live on the course.

Now, get back to Washington and fix our broken airline security system.

Huh ? Who said he can’t have a vacation ? But when’s the last time YOU took a vacation and spent your time knocking on the neighbors’ doors ? You got the job, Barry, relax. You won’t be fired for another three years. Most presidents spend their vacations OUT of the public eye – this guy spends millions of our dollars every time he goes out of town, then plays a $75 muni so he can look like a regular guy.

Well while enjoying my refreshment (third one i think) the mrs. says……“Honey you are a control freak.” Just out of the blue……Who me???? Naaa….“Yes honey you.” " You want everything your way, or you are hell on wheels." Well while pondering her statement,,, I asked this one question. “If i’m such a control freak, why am i vacationing at a Pink Hotel?” The sofa in that suite slept sweet….Control freak….Hell i can’t control my 4 or 5 iron….i definitely can’t control…….well anyway. How did we get such an awesome president?

Sorry Court… and others… but IMHO, considering what he was given and considering how much one MUST compromise and make deals in order to get anything done in Washington, I think he’s done a great job. I know – some are saying he’s addicted to golf. Well I can think of worse things to be addicted to.

By the way, regarding that bombastic blowhard Rush Limbaugh? …everything about the guy (past drug abuse, heavy smoking, a propensity for obesity and an aggressive, angry, high-strung nature) make him ultra-susceptible to the kind of heart-related health problems that lead to an impossible to manage health care system. IMHO. As I said earlier.

LOL – let’s see – when someone comes into a situation and does nothing but make it worse…how does the new person get a pat on the back ? One month into the chair and this country was (a) 4 generations further in debt than a month earlier, (b) not sold out to China, and © not bowing to leaders of Islamic nations that have been trying to kill us. Which is your favorite ? The “transparency” lie ? The “we don’t want to control people” lie ? The “we can print our way out of a recession” lie ? The “the Chinese are swell people and they’re just happy to give us all that money” lie ?

W

inherited a surplus, left a country teetering on depression. W started a war based on a ball faced lie (Weapons of mass destruction) , and in doing so let the Man (Bin Laden), and the terrorist (Al Qaeda) off the hook. history, history, history, how quickly some forget. But, hey that’s just me. I see that North Korea has decided to stop the Nuclear Proliferation. Diplomacy being the order of the day. IMHO. Hey when is the W presidential library opening up. Hey W……….A B C D E F G…….

"The game is swell when it's played well."

by Fairways and Grins on Jan 2, 2010 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

Again – your history is incorrect. First of all – the country did NOT have a buget surplus – Clinton cooked the books. He used the Social Security and Medicare funds in his count – both are expressly OFF the bugetary books by law…but he wasn’t concerned with that kind of thing. On the Iraq war and WMD’s, check your history. During the Clinton years, the democrats…including the now speaker of the house AND the secretary of state…were on the record as believing that there were weapons AND nuclear material in Iraq. The invasion of Iraq was 10 years overdue. Hussein refused to let UN inspectors into buildings they were legally entitled to inspect according to the articles of surrender he signed after his invasion of Kuwait. After 12 years, and numerous attacks on the US by terrorists and tens of thousands of his own people tortured and put to death, it was time SOMEbody stood up to Hussein.

Personal opinion – IF North Korea has truly stopped their nuclear program, WE will be paying for it at some point. This is no JFK putting a quarantine into operation. He is everything the founding fathers warned us abou.

oh – and if you’re so concerned about a W library, which he is entitled to build – why aren’t you concerned about the library being illegally funded with taxpayer dollars for that drunk, Ted Kennedy ? Senators are not entitled to federal dollars for personal libraries, but the are being given $21 million taxpayer dollars…TWENTY ONE MILLION DOLLARS ! To build a library dedicated to a drunken socialist.

Ok, now you sound like the Pig Pelosi.....

As for Nawlins, Bush admitted they could have done better, but the real blame was right on the shoulders of our Governor. Have you not noticed when other states have disasters, they don’t seem to end up like New Orleans did?? The Feds come in to help when the state asks for help……which our Gov did, but way too late…in fact, help was offered before Katrina got here, but, the Gov declined and the Feds got the blame. Galveston was destroyed, but Texas obviously handled it much better than Louisiana. At lease Bush manned up and took the blame, while the liar Obammmmmma blames Bush for all his screw ups. I too was disappointed Bush did the first bailout, but he succumbed to the pressure of the Democratic Congress and the incoming administration…….go figure.

Articles of Surrender...

I guess that depends on whether you believe that Bin Laden is still alive or not. There was a paper trail that connected Al Kaida to Iraq.

I’m just not seeing how you can say that Iraq wasn’t legitimate just because Bin Laden wasn’t there. It had very little to do with 9/11. It had more to do with doing what the UN refused to do.

In the first Gulf war,

in order to use Saudi bases, was there not a stipulation that the West couldn’t go to Baghdad ? Then when it became clear Saddam wouldn’t be overthrown from within, The West had to find a way to finish the job ? Hence the weapons of mass destruction. Gotta keep our oil pipes open after all.

by Easingwold on Jan 4, 2010 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

you’re starting your argument 10 years too late. W went into Iraq because Hussein was jerking the UN around – the world knew about the weapons, but the UN, in typical style, refused to put the muscle behind the surrender papers.

by Fairways and Grins on Jan 5, 2010 11:41 AM EST up reply actions

oh – DEFINITELY true – guess I should’ve covered both ends of that argument. I am not a fan of the modern Republican party, either. Hardly a nickel’s worth of difference between the two anymore – both want government control over our lives.

The Democrats say something completely outrageous, but it sounds popular among the people who are willing to give up their freedom for a government handout…KNOWING that they won’t get it.

But the Republicans…the voice of “moderation” come in and don’t want to fight for what is right, so they give the Democrats 50 yards of their 100 yard pass attempt…so the Democrats get what they wanted in the first place.

As politicians – Democrats are far better at the game of deception than the Republicans….but for the country…we’re screwed with either party – we’ll just be flushed down the toilet faster with the Dems…but we’ll be in the sewer either way.

Nearly Thursday!

but in the meantime……

Are your opinions based on your political affiliations?
Genuine question. Interesting that our two countries had different political parties in power at the time.

I was cynical about the reasons for the first war but at least Bush senior did have UN mandate and a defensible reason for it following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. I think in retrospect that we’re all pretty sorry that he didn’t have the mandate to follow up in Baghdad.

I never believed that Iraq still had WMDs (and I think a majority of my fellow countrymen thought the same way). It is pretty clear from papers now being released here that Tony Blair never asked what exactly these weapons were and even clearer that the WMD’s were used as an excuse for regime change. Perhaps this would have mattered less if US/UK had had a follow-up plan, but then that’s being wise after the fact.

There were other countries in non-compliance with more UN resolutions than Iraq. Yes, like Israel. We haven’t invaded them.

There were and still are regimes in need of change more urgently (in terms of how population is treated) than Iraq. Yes, like Zimbabwe, N. Korea, etc. We haven’t invaded them.

For the record

- I am a “floating voter” not a die-hard member of any political party
- My husband (a cheese-eating surrender monkey no less) supported both wars
- I was in Kuwait during the war and owe my life to American soldiers (British Embassy wouldn’t take its own citizens in). I was also back in Kuwait when Saddam rattled his sabre once again and we feared he had chemical weapons, (scary!)so I am certainly neither pro-Saddam nor anti-American.

How the heck did we get onto this subject? I blame Court myself.

by WendyUK on Jan 5, 2010 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

That seems backwards. Most people’s affiliations of any kind generally go with their opinions (thoughts, beliefs, etc) – not the opinions following the affiliations.

Yeah – a UN mandate – that’s where countries like the US and Israel stand out. Not afraid to stand up to that bunch of leeches.

I know she’s the LPGA’s salvation. I know she’s got legs up to there. (Sorry Wendy, but it’s true). I know she “moves the needle”. She FINALLY won an LPGA event (good for her) But, and I know I’m going out on thin ice here, it was a limited field, no cut, sorta Ochoa Exhibition. I like the girl, I really do, but let’s not crown her queen with one win on her resume’. You must have had a couple extra Martinis before you wrote this….. Orientals? How non-PC of you! It’s ASIANS! Stub, I hope you’re right, it would be wonderful for Michelle and US women’s golf. But take a breath man….

hmm – a 7’1" figment of the imagination…I hope he doesn’t move under some kid’s bed or into a closet – now THERE’S a boogey man ! :-)

Can’t join you on the 2010 Wiesy bandwagon. She played 2 good tournaments all year and won one. I don’t doubt that she CAN win again this year, I just don’t think she’s mentally “there” yet to dominate the way you are describing…but that’s what makes sports fun. You pull for your favorites and I pull for mine.

COURT,

I gotta respect your opinion, but I gotta disagree…I’m giving her a head slap for every bad on course decision, so I guarantee , that one is all she will need…Ya gotta admit, that she has arguably the best swing on the LPGA, and should the putting stay in focus, there is no one else that can stay with her…Shin is too short, Kerr self destructs, and Creamer gets too down on herself…Stanford makes too many second guesses….Ah Court, it;s good to be so dammed good…LOL…just don’t say I didn’t tell ya to get to thy bookie…STUB

I’ll agree that she has ONE of the best swings on tour – she also has some of the best physical talents as far as her ability to generate power – but she is wild off the tee, inconsistent with the irons, a short game that is either on or way off, and spotty/streaky putting. She has a lot of mental growing up to do. (personally, I think Na Yeon Choi has the best pure swing on the LPGA Tour) Shin is light years ahead of Wie mentally and a lot more consistent. Length doesn’t do much if all it does is put you in bad places. (right now – Wie is the pro “putting for pars” way too often) Agree with you on Kerr – when she’s on, she’s hard to beat, but she can also implode on a moment’s notice. Stanford is interesting – she’s been really distracted with her mother’s health the last year or so.

SHEEEZE!!!!

A real system shocker, getting off a plane at 6:30AM in an Hawaiian Shirt, shorts and flops into the FRIGGED USA of Texas…Sure is wonnerful having one of your kiddies meet ya with a warmed up car…As soon as my hands unclench (no, not from around a glass) I will be able to type with more than 2 fingers ( 2 fingers…if ya pore 2 fingers a bourbon..ahh) Life is good, an aside from golf here a moment, all bowl games going according to schedule, with exception of GAMECOCKS…usually Steve does a better job of motivating than that, but he did apologize…T,Tech took care of M. State in good fashion, now, I,m rubbing the bones over THE TIDE OR TEXAS…I think I gotta go with HOOK UM HORNES…well fingers thawing out, can dial the bookie and get some action going there…jist a mite, as it pays for the gin & V….Hope all are recovered from the festivities of the other evening and Court…don’t be the last to catch the bus…IT’S GO BIG WIEZE in 2010…STUB

Welcome back to the mainland with the rest of us chilled and distilled land lubbers…you do know it’s legal to live on the beaches of Hawaii and it’s free, don’t you ? (lol)

Sorry – I’m officially on record as only giving Wie one win this year…and Mom’s from Alabama – so I have to go with the Tide. Should be a whale of a game !

I think somebody would be nuts to turn down Bama +14 !

My brother used to be the tennis pro on Lana’i. I went to visit about the time a bunch of Hari Krishna’s moved onto the beach for a few weeks. Mostly a bunch of relatively smelly guys, but there was one exceptionally well built woman in the pack. Their early morning skinny dip bathtimes drew some crowds from the resort. :-)
