Go Out This Weekend & Play For Patriot Golf Days
You have probably seen the commercials during golf tournaments in recent weeks, but let me encourage you briefly to take part in Patriot Golf Days. They go from this Friday through Monday.
Now, what is Patriot Golf Day? It is a multi-day benefit fundraiser presented by Folds of Honor - a nonprofit that "provides postsecondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving our great nation."
The first Patriot Golf Day was in '07, in which Major Dan Rooney asked people at thousands of courses across the USA to donate a dollar of their green fee to Folds of Honor. His first effort drew in $1.1 million from 3200 facilities. Adding another 600 last year, PGD doubled its fundraising. The result has been near 600 kids getting scholarships for continuing education after high school.
The idea is simple. Find a participating course in your area, donate a dollar (or more) to Folds of Honor, and then play golf like normal. That's it.
So, go out there, have some fun at a participating course, and offer a small help to those who so fiercely defend our country and go into harm's way in our name.
