LPGA Event May Be Coming to Charlotte, NC
Was peeking over at Hound Dog's LPGA blog today and saw he has a post with speculation from Ron Green, Jr. of the Charlotte Observer about a possible LPGA Tour stop there as soon as next fall.
The city of Tega Cay announced Monday it is in negotiations with a private company, Special Events Unlimited, and the LPGA to bring a women's professional golf event to Tega Cay Golf Club.
The first event is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 10-17, 2010, said Tommy Stines, president of Sports Events Unlimited, which would own and operate the tournament.
[LPGA Tour's David] Higdon cautioned, "All the pieces still need to come together. We're still a couple of pieces away."
The plan calls for the LPGA event to be played through 2014 at Tega Cay with a $1.1million purse, according to the town's news release.
I have to tell you. I'm liking this Marty Evans more and more by the minute. She has quietly accomplished more in the last week than Bivens arguably did in the last 18 months. Now, the big questions are:
What are the secrets to Evans' success? And, will the next Commissioner - the permanent one - have the same skills?

Agreed
Evans is proving a big plus for the LPGA. Next year’s Farr will have a smaller purse, but better that than no tournament at all.
