The Golf Schmorgasblog: FedExCup Final Reaction Edition
Every now and then, I get a chance to scour the great golf blogosphere for fun, creative writing - or just controversial opinions. This week, it made sense to do a post surrounding the theme of reactions to the FedExCup now that it is in the books.
So, here we go.
Shane Bacon considers this rendition a success, and it probably had a lot to do with the two guys holding trophies on Sunday at East Lake.
Jay Flemma - via his intern Maggie (seriously) - says this FedExCup finally presented some real drama all the way through.
The Armchair Golfer thinks that Tim Finchem is smiling widely somewhere at the outcome on Sunday. I think he's right.
Steph Wei remains skeptical about the format, but knows that the Tour can come out a winner.
Golfgirl doesn't seem too surprised that a Tiger-Phil finish in the FedExCup standings happened. So, the system worked?
The Common Golfer is up in arms about Phil Mickelson's remark about the FedExCup reward system.
Finally, Blake at Pro Golf Now considers the whole concept a tepid success this year.
And I can't believe that I forgot ole One Eyed's take! I think that he sees the results as a success, what with having Tiger, Phil, and the like playing deep into the NFL season.

Just read Common Golfer’s post on Mickelson’s statement about shooting a 65 and getting the smaller check last Sunday…which, in itself, makes no sense. Interesting stuff.
The more I think about Phil’s statement, the more I wonder what he said to Payne Stewart 10 years ago that made Stewart grab him by the face and remind him that he was about to become a father. Sounds like he needed someone to do the same thing and remind him that his wife and mother have cancer and, as disappointing as the checks are, his game hasn’t been what it usually is because he has had to take time off from his regular schedule, and find ways to keep his mind focused on the golf course when he did get to play.
I know that Mickelson is a world class competitor – he hates to lose – but this is one he needs to let go. In a regular season with this same result, it is very likely that he would have been holding both trophies and both checks last Sunday – but this wasn’t a regular year.

I think his comment was more geared to mean, “Hey, let’s make the Tour Championship into a free for all.”

Phil makes no bones about not liking the FedExCup format
My guess Phil understands the format and was taking another back handed swipe at Tim Finchem.
To which Finchem would reply...
…“Phil – I don’t care – you won one tournament – this is what you get. Feel free to reject the electronic fund transfer on Monday.”
