Unlike Celebrity Feuds, Golf Arguments Are Real & Not Useless
I dropped by that liberal rag, MSNBC.com, yesterday to catch up on some headlines. Among the stories I read was about the speculation that today's hot celebrity feuds are faked. (Duh.)
Eminem & Mariah Carey. And sometimes Nick Cannon.
Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
War has been declared between Ashlee Simpson-Wentz - yeah, she actually married the guy from Fall Out Boy - and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
Well, speaking of bloggers, esteemed golf blogger Geoff Shackelford and CBS golf analyst Peter Kostis have apparently gotten into a little bit of a scuffle. Shaq - my George W. Bush-inspired nickname for Geoff - kind of jumpstarted things with his critiques of the CBS telecast of The Barclays in golf.com's PGA Tour Confidential.
Then Kostis rebutted in his Twitter feed that I bet you didn't he had. He railed Geoff for his critique.
So, Geoff responded with a post on the Tweet. And Peter came over to the thread to defend himself under his own name, although he has apparently posted in the past under an alias. (Which I have no problem with at all. In fact, if golf reporters or industry wonks want to post under fake names here, I encourage it.)
Anyway, the discussion turned out to be constructive and interesting. No dumb texts with absurd accusations. No childish tactics. Add the fact that two grown men can bicker like adults about golf to the many reasons why I love the sport and the debate it inspires. We've done it here and I'm proud of that.

The lesson to be learned here...
…is that feuds among famous people lead to spikes in web traffic. Now, if I could only get into a feud with someone famous and can lure them to comment on my site, I could very well experience a huge surge.
Unfortunately, I’m a nobody and I don’t know any famous people, although John Daly @replied me on Twitter a few times. I like him, though, so that’s a no-go. Same with Dave Pelz.
This is really disappointing. I was looking forward to starting my own celebrity feud.
Well, maybe we can feud with each other?

Nah...
I like you too much. Your blog is the only one I read more than my own. Where would I go to from here? I’d obviously have to stomp off in a tizzy.
Bullshit, Ryan, you jerk.
You have no idea what you are talking about and never did. Go back to your day job.
Now, did you prefer
(a) the sissy way Kostis and ‘Shaq’ went about discussing their differences or
(b) the “40 year-old blogger still living in his mother’s basement” method I chose with Mr. Ballengee?
Getting along with people is way over-rated. Ask my third wife..!! (Only kidding- one and holding)

The definition of a happily married man is one who has learned to say “yes dear” while still managing to keep one ear tuned into what’s being said on television.
