Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic to Return in 2010

Some great news for the LPGA.  From the Toledo Blade:

Toledo Classic, Inc., which operates the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday afternoon at which time an extension of its agreement with the LPGA Tour is expected to be announced.

A source familiar with the negotiations indicated it will be a one-year contract that will assure the tournament will be staged in 2010. No details on playing dates or purse were made available.

Now, will Michelob be saved? Is it possible the Corning Classic isn't dead yet? A change of commissioner has brought the LPGA some good news.

If the Jamie Farr is around another ten years, I expect Se Ri Pak to get her record breaking 6th win there. As Farr said once, Se Ri owns Toledo.  She has won there in '98, '99, '01, '03, '07, and finished one shot out of the lead in 2000 and 2004.

Mission: accomplished for Marty Evans. She did exactly what she was asked to when she took over as temp commish.

Awesome! I wish there was a way to keep Adm. Evans on permanently.

Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

They should at least offer her a contract for a couple of years – let her really get things organized and some people trained.

she’s already said she doesn’t want the job.

It’s worth a shot. I mean, I know she doesn’t want the job, but maybe she can be financially motivated.

I don't know, man

There’s something scary about a person who doesn’t want a job but is wooed by money. I don’t know much about Evans, but when a person does a job just for the money, there’s a high risk of mediocrity and apathy after the initial interest wears off.

it would still be temporary – 1 or 2 years – a “rent-a-commish” by MLB standards. :-)

People often say that they don’t want a job permanently when they take it only to change their minds once they’ve actually done the work for a while.

Gossip

From the ‘for what it’s worth’ files…during the Proam last Thursday I followed Gulbis’ group for a while (can ya blame me?) and overheard her talking to one of her guys in the 4some about how ‘…they told us they would still do it, done, they just didn’t want to do it with her…’.

First, get your minds out of the gutter.

Second, I only caught a few other bits and pieces but it seemed to me that based on what I heard she was talking about how sponsors didn’t like Bivens way of doing things (shocker) and now may be coming back more with a ‘kinder/gentler’ commish.

Or, she could have just been talking about something dirty. Not sure.

do you people honestly

believe these negotiations and discussions were not well underway when Ms. Bivens was at the helm. Blame her for everything. Offer no credit. You slay me…
