That Potty Mouth Will Get You Banned From Your Fave Course
Devil Ball Golf has a fun/interesting/all too real story up about a man on Long Island. That man is Christopher DeMenna. He's a good golfer. In fact, he's a very good amateur player.

Totally unrelated funny sign.
Unfortunately for him, though, he has a potty mouth. In a 2007 tournament, he lost his golf ball after a wayward drive and could not retrieve it in the five minutes he was allotted. When a rules official told him that he had to tee off again with a new ball, DeMenna cussed out the rules official and left the course. The next day, he issued a written apology.
Well, that wasn't good enough. He was banned from this particular tournament for four years because of the offense.
As you can surmise, he is not suing Richmond County CC - the host course - and the Staten Island Golf Association.
For as much as we may rail (or love) Tiger for his on-course cursing, at least he doesn't mow down some PGA Tour rules official with a tirade like that.

Good for Richmond CC – good for the tournament – and ESPECIALLY good for DeMenna for taking his punishment like a man. (It wasn’t the language that got him in trouble – it was how and to whom it was directed)
The same punishment was doled out to Bobby Jones early in his career – except he was banned from ALL USGA events until he learned to behave himself and apologized to the powers-that-be…been (?)…were (?)…
Interesting point on Tiger – he gets fined every time he goes on one of his tirades, but it is never pointed at an official. I hope the PGA Tour would be willing to take serious disciplinary steps if Tiger, or any other Tour member, took a verbal swing at an official. I’d like to think they would.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I wonder...
…if maybe it had more to do simply with dressing down the official, as opposed to the language that was chosen for the occasion. I personally would suspend a guy who yelled at any official at an event while sprinkling his language with “gosh” and “golly” instead of expletives. It shows a lack of sportsmanship, disrespect, and a general disregard for the spirit of the game.
very good point – and why would you take anything out on an official anyway ? The only thing the guy could have said was “your 5 minutes are up – you must go back and replay your shot from where you were.”
We’ve all met some rude and useless marshalls – but a rules official in a tournament ? Almost hard to imagine.
