Jim Furyk: I've Made A Huge ($131,250) Mistake
Unless you're Shawn Kemp, Donald Trump, Bernie Madoff, or Michael Bluth, you have likely never made a single mistake that cost you more than a few thousand dollars. Fender bender, maybe. Bad investment in a Ponzi scheme. Perhaps you invested in HD DVD technology instead of Blu-Ray.
That Michael Bluth reference was to the incredible Arrested Development.
That all pales in comparison to what Jim Furyk lost on Saturday at The Barclays thanks to a little clumsiness. Jay Busbee has the gloomy details:
Furyk had considered using a different wedge but decided not to, but because of rain the cover was on his bag right until the last minute, and neither he nor Cowan checked to confirm everything was on the up-and-up.
Furyk and Fluff Cowan (Tiger's first pro caddy) played two holes with the offending extra club. By the rules of golf, Furyk was penalized four shots - two for each hole he completed with 15 sticks. (As a bit of a promo, check out 14 Stix for some great golf deals.)
Those two holes cost him 188 FedEx Cup points, but also $131,250 in prize money! Yikes.
