Ryo Ishikawa Celebrates Like Tiger Woods
Mostly Harmless pays attention to Asian golf in a way that I only wish I could. I can't because I just don't operate on that kind of time zone schedule. But, The Constructivist tells us about Ryo Ishikawa's second win in three starts on the Japan Pro Golf Tour. I found the link this morning thanks to a check over at Devil Ball Golf.
He won the Sun Chlorella Classic by a shot over Brendan Jones - you know, the guy Tiger beat at the Accenture Match Play in his first competitive round back to golf this season. Jones is actually third on their money list. Ishikawa is first.
The seventeen year old has not fared well in the States so far this year, but is continuing to light it up on the Japanese tour. For the victory, Ishikawa picked up 30,000,000 Yen. Seems like a lot, but he actually won around $300,000. So, in between Nationwide and PGA Tour events.
Anyway, The Constuctivist has this highlight package of Ishikawa's final hole and the celebration of Ryo after he sinks the winning birdie putt. Kind of reminiscent of Tiger Woods, huh? (Also note that the Japanese have a word for "Jones," but just initial Brendan with an English "b." Cool stuff.)

winner's check was more
300 million, I think. That 2 million was some additional prize.
I think Ryo couldn’t believe his eyes at first when the putt actually dropped. That delayed-reaction celebration was awesome! And his shot out of the fairway bunker was Tiger-like!

300M Y? He has about 60M Y on the money list, so I figured the 2M was the winner’s check. You’re right that it may be a bonus, though.

Any chance we could talk NBC into replacing Johnny Miller with these two guys ? They are a lot more interesting an insightful…and the only thing they said that I understood was Brendan Jones.
How is the winner’s check a ripoff ? They pay what they pay – and the Japanese Tour isn’t far off the level of The Hooters Tour – and the Hooters Tour guys have to travel a lot more than the Japan Tour guys. If the winner had to chip in for the trophy, that would be a ripoff.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
