The Starter - 8/25 - Where's A Commish When You Need One?
Coming off of an excellent Solheim Cup, now is the time for the LPGA to make good news by announcing a new commissioner, new tournaments, or deals to preserve the schedule.

I still want to know who designed that room where the wall leans back at a 45 degree angle. (lol)

the tour HAS to save the tournaments in Toledo and Rochester ? No they don’t. There are markets all over the country – if Toledo and Rochester can’t afford it – find a new spot. It would be great to have the Jamie Farr continue – but the man is getting up there in age – he won’t be around forever. And Rochester ? Why ?
They HAVE to have a tournament in Hawaii ? Any idea how expensive it is to travel out to Hawaii and get hotels for 2 week ? Or – with just one tournament – it’s even worse because of the travel.
They HAVE to have a tournament in China ? If you can’t keep a tournament in China, something is very wrong. China is on their way to owning the United States. That is where the money is…your tax dollars at work.

I’m not saying they have to, but it’s best to start where you already are/have been.

I would be ok with that. The thing with Toledo and Rochester is that both events have several decades’ worth of loyalty in the community and fans. To shed that would be really bad PR and force them to start anew in a different market.

I don’t have a problem with the Tour trying to work something out with the cities that gave up their stops because of Bivens policies – just saying that the LPGA doesn’t HAVE to have tournaments in any of those places.

Tour Stops
I agree with you Ryan on the benefit of a Hawaii stop, not just because it would be good for Hawaii. The Kapalua Classic was positioned to allow the players to make the jump from Mainland to Hawaii to Asia. The LPGA players I spoke with, even the girls not in the multi million dollar brackets, loved playing here and made the trip because it made it worth going to Asia.
If they can’t sell the LPGA after that Solheim Cup and the US win, the LPGA should ask the PGA to please take it under it’s umbrella. The LPGA hasn’t done a good job of selling itself. The LPGA doesn’t do a good job of communicating to the outside. It seems bent on internal strife/affairs rather than performing as a team to win in business and sales, where the money is. It’s been like that since my first encounter at the Takefuji Classic in Kona and the Cup Noodles on Oahu.
The people I’ve come across from the LPGA act as though they are an exclusive club only the privileged can access.
The perfect example was during the Ko Olina fiasco when the media didn’t take pictures because the LPGA wanted to own them. No pictures, no coverage, no glitz.
