Golf Recommended For '16 Olympic Games
As anticipated earlier in the week due to rumors reported by the NY Times, golf and rugby have been recommended for inclusion into the 2016 Olympic Games. International Olympic leaders made the recommendation on Thursday morning.
Left out of the mix were baseball and softball (removed after the '08 Games), karate, squash, and roller sports - whatever that is.
The full IOC assembly will vote in October on the recommendations, but they will surely pass the vote in Copenhagen. Golf is in the Olympics for the first time since 1904.
The Olympic golf tournament would be a 60 person field - one for each men and women - played over 72 holes of stroke play.
Rumors that golf would be recommended were amplified further by Tiger Woods' revelation on Wednesday that he would play in the Olympic tournament at age 40 if he were still playing competitive golf.
