TPC Avenel
Ryan, do you know what’s going on over at TPC Avenel? Are they still planning extensive renovations despite the slow economy and Tiger moving his tourney to Philly for a couple years while Congressional gets ready for the 2011 Open? Thanks!

Bill, they’ve completed the renovation and renamed the place TPC Potomac at Five Farms. There was a nice review done of the place at Punchbowl Golf. I’m hoping to get out there soon to see for myself.

Thanks for the link Ryan. I’d love to see a Champions Tour event there one day. I worked out at both Congressional and Avenel as a Marshal in the ’80’s and ’90’s (something every golf fan should do as you pointed out in a prior article) and in ‘87 when Avenel opened, just about every pro I came in contact with was saying the tour went there one to two years too early. I heard a lot of expletives, heard it called a goat ranch and one pro just laughed when I said I hoped he’d be back the following year.

This isn’t a certainty, but I think there’s a good chance that the Senior Players Championship moves there after the contract at Baltimore Country Club is done.
