Photos, Videos, and Stories from Sunday at the AT&T National
It made a whole lot of sense to put together one large post of photos and videos and stories from today at the AT&T National. Obviously, the tournament ended with Tiger winning it. Here's a photo of him at the trophy presentation.
After the jump, I'll share more good stuff from the final round.
Before the round even began for the leaders, all of the buzz was about Wimbledon and the Federer-Roddick classic. I left the media center with the match deadlocked at 14 in the fifth set. I must have been a curse because not too long after I left, Federer broke Roddick for the first time all day to claim his 15th major championship. Later, we would find out that Tiger Woods was on the putting green when he got wind of Fed's win. He shot Fed a text message and told the Swissman that it was now his turn. Curiously enough, Tiger won Memorial on the same day that Federer won the French Open for the first time. The comparison, as Tiger noted, was kind of weak in the stature of the events.
My fiancee joined me on Friday and Sunday to catch her first golf tournament. She is a big Tiger fan, so I wanted to get her a couple of chances to see Tiger in the final round. We camped out on the fourth hole after watching Danny Lee get up and down on the second hole from a nearly impossible spot. We watched several groups go by with little fanfare - despite some great approach shots from Lucas Glover and Cameron Beckman. We knew when Tiger was approaching when the crowd got suddenly bigger after Woods and Kim completed the second hole.

Crowd anticipating Woods at #4
By the way, some little kids need to be taught by their parents not to boo any player not named Tiger. And some adults need to learn to not walk away when someone as talented as Anthony Kim is still playing.
After Tiger came through and made a pedestrian par, we moved over the the par 5 9th. It's a 602 yard hole on the card. But, we were a good five groups ahead of the lead pairing. So, we got to see a number of players go through. One of those players was 50 year old and Senior PGA Champion Michael Allen. After suffering through the first nine holes, Allen recovered really nicely by holing out for eagle on the 9th. We captured a short video of the celebration.
Then I ducked into the media center for a bit and my fiancee hit up the 15th hole. She made a couple of friends in the crowd. They saw CBS Sports' David Feherty coming to the green sporting some flashy plaid pants and his back belt thing. The friends told Feherty, "Looking fabulous, Feherty!" David quipped right back, "I know."
We finally caught back up on the 18th hole. If you're a fan of HGTV and its show Designed to Sell, I was standing next to one of the show's hosts, Shane Talent. He was as big of a Tiger fan as anyone else. Coming down the home hole, the crowd was really pulling hard for Woods. We got this shot of him after his approach to the final hole.

Tiger and the crowd at the 18th
Then, after Woods had won the tournament, my final duties commenced. Namely, my job was to get something from Tiger. I ran to the scoring area and flash center to get some video. But, Tiger was first having the trophy presentation at 18. I caught the video of that (which you can watch here) but had to hop on back of a golf cart and fly down the hill near the clubhouse to the 18th green. In the end, I finished my day by stopping by the media center to cut up my one video.
My fiancee was with me and I told her it would just be a few minutes. I didn't know they were bringing Tiger into the media center for an interview. But, she sent me an email saying that it was ok to take my time because she was sitting outside of the media center when she saw Woods - flanked by security - coming to the media center in a golf cart.
All told, we had a hell of a Sunday at the National.

Fun day
I got an e-mail from my mother telling me my brother and I were on TV when Tiger teed off on the 18th. I guess we’re famous now. Hah! It’s something else watching him hit a ball in person, that’s for sure.
I’m really glad that you both were able to enjoy the tickets!

Absolutely
Thanks for making that great time possible. I’m like a kid in a candy store watching pros operate out there. I’m half fan/half student when I get to watch a tour event and I learn something every time out there. It’s also a cool experience to stand ten feet from the guys I see on TV every week.
Congressional is a beautiful course, too. I’d love to play that place!

If I find my way on there, I’ll be sure to see if there’s room for one more!
