Mirassou Winery & LPGA Tour Seeking to Be Perfect Pair

The LPGA Tour's official wine - Mirassou Winery - is sponsoring a sweepstakes between now and the end of the month.  The winner of that contest gets the VIP treatment at the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge in San Francisco at the end of September.

The winner gets roundtrip transportation and hotel accomodations in San Francisco.  They'll also get a VIP experience at the tournament and dinner with 6th generation wine expert David Mirrasou.  I spoke with David over email to get more information about the sweepstakes and the Mirassou family involvement with the LPGA Tour.

I don't think anyone misses the connection between golf and fine wine.  But, what led you to partner specifically with the LPGA Tour?

2009 actually marks my family’s 155th anniversary of California winemaking and one of the ways we are celebrating is by announcing Mirassou as the official wine of the LPGA. Mirassou has been a sponsor of individual LPGA events for several years, and I think my family’s long history is an ideal complement to the LPGA, which has a rich history, as well.

What can the winner of your sweepstakes expect to experience at the CVS Challenge?

One way we’re celebrating our partnership with the LPGA is through this "Perfect Pairings" sweepstakes. The winner and a guest will receive a free trip to California and VIP passes to the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge tournament, where they’ll also have a meet and greet with an LPGA player. While at the tournament, he or she will be able to spend time in our exclusive hospitality tent, the Mirassou Sun Room, and the winner will join me for a special dinner one evening. All in all, the winner can expect to watch some great LPGA golf, enjoy delicious food and have the California wine and golf getaway of a lifetime.

As a fan of microbrew beers, it seems like more people are trying to expand their palate.  Are you seeing that in wine as well?

I travel the country and talk with consumers on a regular basis and an expanding palate is certainly a trend we’re seeing in wine, as well. I especially get questions about how to pair food and wine together at home, which tells me that folks are trying new things and broadening the ways that they are enjoying wine. We’ve added a few tips and tools to our Web site (mirassou.com) to give some "everyday" food and wine pairing ideas to help consumers with this very issue.

Mirassou features articles with LPGA Tour players and their wine pairing recommendations.  Would you be willing to star in a golf instruction video with an LPGA Tour player?

Wow – that would flip the tables, wouldn’t it! We were delighted to partner with LPGA Tour members Jill McGill, Laura Diaz and Kristy McPherson, who shared some of their favorite recipes and wine pairings with us. I suppose it would only be fair that I be willing to star in a golf instruction video with one of them. In fact, I do need quite a bit of instruction, so that might not be a bad idea!

To enter the contest, check out this link - and do so by July 31.

I think I would go with Karrie also. IIRC, she has quite the culinary eye.
