Thank God That Jeremy Mayfield Isn't a Golfer
Twice-proven meth user and NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield has really gotten himself into quite a pickle. After failing a May drug test administered by NASCAR in which traces of meth were found, Mayfield filed for an injunction to lift the suspension on US District Court. He won on July 1. Then, on July 9, he was tested again. And he failed again - for meth.
His answer? Blame the NASCAR Commissioner and his "whore" stepmother.
Thanks, Deadspin, for giving me my Jerry Springer fix for the day.
Brian France out there talking about effective drug policy, it's kind of like Al Capone talking about effective law enforcement. And that's the way I feel about it. The pot shouldn't be calling the kettle black, you know what I'm saying? And I think the world needs to hear that, too."
"She knows what we've got on her," Mayfield said. "For her to come out and do this is pretty ballsy. Everybody that's ever known me knows I never, ever have been around her for more than 10 hours of my life. She's a gold digger. I knew that from Day 1." ....
"She's basically a whore," he told ESPN.com's David Newton. "She shot and killed my dad."
Sure, the PGA Tour has basically acknowledged that players are doing some illegal substances. But, at least Sergio Garcia isn't calling Morgan Leigh Norman a slut. And John Daly isn't saying that Tim Finchem is a coke addict.

Only once ! (wink wink)
You mentioned it – the court overturned one of the positive tests. (we really have a screwed up court system that does too much meddling) The part of the story that cracked me up was his own MOTHER saying that she knew about him taking meth at least 30 times…to which the dutiful and loving son replied “well she killed my dad !” (he was found dead by a gunshot to the chest – determined that it was suicide)
What a guy.

Seriously, how do people like Mayfield not land in jail?

ummm – Sergio IS calling Morgan Leigh a slut ?? What did I miss ?
Finchem said that it is POSSIBLE that someone could be taking an illegal substance – he didn’t acknowledge that they are.
Evidence – he wasn’t caught driving on a public street on meth, the police didn’t do the test, so they weren’t arresting him for being under the influence, and nobody has found him in posession.

WHOA – caught a typo there, Court! Thanks!
I know the criminal explanation for why he’s not in jail. That was more of a rhetorical question :)

glad that was a typo ! Sergio might have been walking around Turnberry with a Greg Norman 9 iron up his wazzoo.

Plus, Sergio isn’t driving a car 200 MPH all hopped up on meth.

Arjun Atwal got into a highway race with a guy that turned out to kill the guy he was racing.

wasn’t a highway race – it was on a surface street – turned out it wasn’t a race at all – and Atwal was cleared of all charges – the other guy would have been arrested if he hadn’t killed himself in the wreck.

Atwal was cleared of all charges, but he definitely engaged in some not so smart behavior.

A la Tripp Isenhour killing a bird on the range on purpose while filming something

accidentally on purpose – he was hitting AT the bird – but never actually expected to hit it from 200+ yards away. he couldn’t have done that again if he wanted to. the intent was to make it fly away – hawks are amazingly loud. dumb thing to do and he paid the price for it.
