Oakmont to Host 2016 US Open
For observers of the USGA, the return of the US Open to Oakmont was a foregone conclusion. The question was really whether it would be in 2016 or 2017. We found out yesterday that it will be 2016. Gerry Dulac reports in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
The United States Golf Association has informed Oakmont officials that it intends to bring the U.S. Open back to the famed course in 2016, just nine years after it was the host for a record eighth time in 2007, the Post-Gazette has learned.
The announcement is expected to be made the day before the US Open at Bethpage.
Oakmont had petitioned the USGA to host the tournament as early as 2015, but the site that year was awarded to Chambers Bay.
Oakmont will also host next year's US Women's Open - a fact that Dulac says helped Oakmont get the 2016 US Open.

not soon enough
If the USGA were to announce that they were only going to use Oakmont and Pebble Beach for the next 20 US Opens, I would be happy. It just seems too long between Opens at those two sites – BUT – there with so many great courses, I’ll have to be patient. :-)
