New Blog: World Soccer Digest for Soccer Fans!

Postcard from the Golfosphere

Each week or so, I try to do a post featuring links to the pieces that I really enjoyed and WANTED to write about, but couldn't.  I'm not featuring a particular blog this week - I'll get back to that next week - but I wanted to get some links out to you for the weekend!

No respect! No respect!

Before that, there's a bit of Waggle Room news.  During our reader survey a few weeks ago, several of you indicated that I don't post much on the weekends.  That's accurate.  But, you also said that you'd like some kind of posting on the weekends.  So, my solution is going to be a new weekend-only segment called Who's On First.  It's named after the Laurel & Hardy Abbott & Costello (man, I'm stupid sometimes) bit, but it's a look at the round that was on each of the major tours the next morning.  Look for that starting this weekend.

Onto the rest of the golfosphere - a term lent to me by the folks behind the Greenfinder GPS.

Stephanie Wei got to play Sahalee, host course for the 2010 US Senior Open.  I believe it's the first pro major for Sahalee since the 1998 PGA Championship.  It was all part of a media day for the event in which she learned quite a bit from our good friends at the USGA.

Jay Busbee (thanks for the Mike Davis linkage) has what borders on a rant about how golf harkens on its past perhaps too much.  He primarily uses the measuring stick of Jack Nicklaus since he is the host of this week's Memorial.  And I think he's onto something a la our "Aging of Golf" series.

This isn't really blog related, but blogs are free, so go with me.  You can go to the Champ Tour 3M Championship...for FREE.  I don't know if that's sad or good.

The gang at NiceBallz wonders why John Hawkins is the Angry Golfer and why he is so miffed that on-air golf commentators lift from his writing.  And NiceBallz (and I) wonder why us bloggers never get credit from the golf writers for all of the good work that we do.

There's a new country club in Washington, DC, and I didn't know about it.  But, Heather Jones (and my fiancee) did.  It's called H St. Country Club.  It's a bar on floor one with a 9 hole mini golf course on floor two.  On a rainy day like today, the equation of booze + golf + dry cover = amazing.

But, if you do get a chance to play this weekend, check out Qwowi Golf's review of the Puma Golf Crown shoes.

Who's on First.

Was Abbott & Costello, not Laurel & Hardy

John Hawkins

I still don’t get the “Angry” golfer thing either – CLUELESS, maybe – but what does he have to be angry about ? He is a fairly good writer who, for some bit of insane reasoning, got picked up by xxx Golf Channel and he was just awful. AWFUL. He makes Obama look like a smooth talker without a teleprompter.

dying media

Many of the ‘old-school’ golf MSM are angry and scrambling for air. Their old jobs are vanishing in print. I get it…I can empathize. And sadly, most of them will not translate well to TV.

But I think he comes off as a bit of a tool because instead of b*tching about Faldo stealing from him, he would be better served to dunno…setup a twitter or facebook account :).
