Ridgewood CC Will Host 2010 The Barclays
The PGA Tour sent out a press release this morning announcing the next two sites for The Barclays Traveling Circus of Golf as part of the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup. The 2010 host will be Ridgewood Country Club and the 2011 edition will be at Plainfield Country Club - both in New Jersey.
As you might remember, last year's The Barclays was at Ridgewood and the players just loved it there after enduring Westchester Country Club for so many years. The Tillinghast design was heralded by the players as Vijay Singh won the event in a playoff with Sergio Garcia.
Plainfield was the site of the longest USGA championship ever played. How do I know that? Mike Davis mentioned it in the midst of the torrential downpour on Thursday at Bethpage. The 1987 US Women's Open was held there and Laura Davies won the championship in a three-way playoff held on Wednesday. Hopefully that won't happen in 2011.
It does seem like the PGA Tour is trying to move around two of the four Playoff events. The Western Open BMW Championship has split time between Chicago, St. Louis, and will get to Indianapolis at some point. The Barclays appears to be staying in the NJ/NY area for a while, but it is a rotation. Depending on what happens with sponsorship of the Deutsche Bank Championship, the same may happen for that event.
Curiously enough, I suggested that the PGA Tour do this a couple of years ago. So, bring down the I Called It banner!
Anyway, the move back to Ridgewood for a year is a spectacular move by the Tour.
As for the future courses that will host the US Open, Geoff Shackelford does a great job handicapping the contenders.

I’ve heard it is just incredible. Looked awesome on TV. And I’m a Tillinghast fanboy…for the most part.

I like it – two good courses. And I’ll be cracking up when the media says that they are in New York because it fits their little set of stories. :-)
Ok, stat boy, you can’t say that Plainfield was the site of the longest ever USGA event without saying what it was and when. :-)

Longest in terms of time to play – not in terms of length!

courtgolf…why such the hatred toward New Yorkers? Personally, I hate the fact that the national media paints us all as being obnoxious, uninformed morons that “tawk” and live on “lawn guyland.” Its a shame that a few unintelligent individuals give us such a poor image.

The National Media ? The National Media is IN NYC. They are the ones who picture people from NYC as superior.
it’s not hatred towards New Yorkers in general – it’s more of a reaction that stems from that group of New Yorkers who think that NYC is the societal, and intellectual center of the universe and that all southerners are backwater racists. In all honesty, I have only met a few from NYC that I didn’t like – and most of those were either in the media, politics, or academics.
tell the truth – if you were from New Jersey and the media always said that the Fed Ex Playoffs were starting in New York, you wouldn’t be very happy about it. I found their arrogance hilarious.
Hey – All in the Family and The Dick van Dyke show are still two of my favorites ! :-)
and yes, I know that NYC only makes up a very small part of the state.
(oh – Braves 4 – Spankees 0) (lol) (game 2 tonight)
