I'm thinking of calling a friend of mine in Brooklyn...
…and asking him to go outside and throw salt in the air in an effort to ward off precipitation.
"Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into a even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose." - Winston Churchill
throw salt in the air ?
I never realized the mistake in Churchill’s description of golf before.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
1. The idea behind the salt has to do with some far-fetched theories about dropping salt – or some other sort of moisture repellent – into hurricanes. in an effort to weaken them. This wackiness surfaces every so often, especially since the end of the Cold War. The Ruskies had some crazy-ass ideas about controlling the weather.
2. Indeed, there is an error in the Churchill quote. Still an applicable quote, though – the man was a one-liner machine.

I always heard the theory of salting clouds as a way to GET rain – not to stop it.
