Let's Do the Time Warp at the US Open

Round one is nearly complete at the 109th US Open and the names that are atop the leaderboard take you back in time to the first half of this decade.

2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir?  2001 British Open Champion David Duval?  2002 US Amateur Champion Ricky Barnes?  2004 Open Champion Todd Hamilton?

What is going on around here?  A Rocky Horror Picture Show time warp?

These are names that no one expected to see near the top of the leaderboard.  Not even for their tee times!  These guys were all a part of the Thursday afternoon crew that is dominating the leaderboard right now after the first round.  And, to a person, they've all said that they cannot wait to get out there and keep playing.

Rocco Mediate - still living above the clouds at the US Open - said that he cannot wait to get back out there and try to keep riding this wave.

This part of the second round may be the firmest that we see Bethpage play all championship.  If Tiger will get any help from the course, it will be between now and sunset.  If Woods get no help from the course and the field, he will likely have to go way under in order to make up the ten shot deficit he currently faces.

Regardless, right now, Tiger Woods is a mere spectator and cannot do anything about the draw.

8 years is a “Time Warp” ? Why you young whipper-snapper…I oughta… :-D

I’d hardly be surprised by Weir – he didn’t win the Masters, then disappear the way Hamilton did after the British. Or have a game disappear the way Duval’s did. And he definitely didn’t fall into the “damn I’m good…and the chicks dig these biceps” trap that Barnes jumped into…head first.

Haha, there is a reason that it’s Mike Weir atop the leaderboard and not any of the other throwbacks.
