Player Reaction to the Weather and US Open Thursday

Some of the players are trickling in with a few quotes for the media about the conditions out there today.

Tiger Woods is +1 through six holes of his round and had this to say about the conditions:

It was pretty wet and windy. It was a slow day. We had to get in as many holes as we possibly could, and we played more holes than we thought. I knew it was going to be a tough day and it was.

Justin Leonard fared well and is even par through seven holes. The mission doesn't change for him, even with a much wetter Bethpage.

On this golf course, the way it is playing, you just have to put it on the greens. You have to avoid getting off the fairway because it is extremely wet and thick.

Half of the field was able to at least start their round, though some morning groups only got two holes or so in before the suspension of play. The crew scheduled to go out in the afternoon wave today will begin their US Open tomorrow around 10am.

Ok – help me out here – that sounds like Tiger fell asleep out there. How do you play more holes than you thought ? (and there were only 6 1/2 that they got in !) Did he lose count ? :-)

Who knew that Justin Leonard was pushing for Frank Nobilo’s position as professor emaritus of obvious golf analysis ? :-D

I think he meant that they got more in than he was expecting – just sounded poorly :)
