Woods, Cabrera, and Harrington Together for Bethpage
Mike Davis made it known last week that we would not see another 1-2-3 grouping in the opening rounds of the US Open. Saying that the grouping made sense because of the decorated past of both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson at Torrey Pines, he chose not to go that route again this year.
Instead, fans will be treated to the first two days with the three reigning major champions all in one group. Tiger Woods - defending champion - will play with Masters champion Angel Cabrera and with PGA and British Open champion Padraig Harrington.
Phil Mickelson is paired with two South Africans that are two-time former Open champions: Ernie Els and Retief Goosen
Among other interesting groups:
- Jeev Milkha Singh, Vijay Singh, & KJ Choi - the Singh commonality and KJ Choi
- Rickie Fowler (a), Casey Wittenberg, and Bo Van Pelt - the Oklahoma State connection
- Geoff Ogilvy, Jim Furyk, and Paul Casey - two Open champions and the best player on the planet this year
- Andres & Eduardo Romero, plus Miguel Angel Jimenez - that's almost profiling, but the USGA loves the last name game
- Sergio Garcia, Camilo Villegas, and Adam Scott - the heartthrob group; the US Open N*Sync, if you will
- David Duval, David Toms, and Darren Clarke - a trio of men who have faced serious personal tragedy

I miss the “fat guy” group – almost impossible to find three for that one anymore. used to have an a-hole group, too.

Umm.....
What’s the personal tragedy in David Toms life? As fpr Duval, I don’t associate having vertigo with personal tragedy. It’s put his career in the toilet, that’s maybe tragic career wise but its not my only son dying 14.5 hours after birth or Clarke’s wife dying. Those are personal tragedies a loved one was lost, Duval and Toms careers being turned upside down by health conditions aren’t/

I would say personal tragedies are definitely measured by varying degrees. Certainly Clarke would have the most tragic thing happen to him of the three.

If there are players
Howard and Johnson they should automatically be paired together!

Or how about this
Adam Scott, Kirk Triplet, Justin Leonard. Anybody know why these three should be paired tpgether?
