Waggle Room is Heading to Bethpage for the US Open

It is official: Waggle Room is heading to the US Open.  It'll be my first trip to the Open since 2003 at Olympia Fields.  I was fortunate enough to watch Tom Watson's round of 65 with Bruce Edwards on the bag that brought a tear to my eye.  I also saw Jim Furyk break through in a major.

US Open Flashback: 2003 - Watson sinks a putt at Olympia Fields, with perhaps a little divine intervention

I'm really looking forward to seeing Bethpage and the Black for the first time.  I have never been to Long Island or seen this beast of a course.  As you all know, Tiger Woods won there in 2002 and was the only player under par that year.  That was under the Tom Meeks administration and I am very curious to see what Mike Davis has lined up for the field.

Waggle Room will have coverage of the US Open on all four days of the event.  We'll be using Twitter, having frequent posts to relevant news, commenting on the tournament, and beaming photos and video from Bethpage back here to Waggle Room HQ.

Also, I am going to host a show each day from the media center to talk about the tournament, take your questions, and give this video thing a try.  It'll be easy to access here at Waggle Room and I'll let you know the times that we go live.

But, I need a name for the show.  I've never done a video show before and it seems like all of the good names are taken.  Golf Channel has "Live From" and PGATour.com has "Live At."  So, I don't think "Live In" works for me.  I need your help and the person that gives me the best name will win a prize.

I'll make sure that you feel just as close to the Open as you can feel - and I promise I won't refer to that 64 that I shot at Oakmont 35 years ago.

As a teaser for the Open and our interview with the USGA's Mike Davis on The 19th Hole this week, Court sent me an interview from On the Green with golf historian and Tillinghast fan, Phil Young.

I hate you..

Just kidding. I can’t wait to watch your coverage at Bethpage. What an fantastic opportunity.

As for names how about “Realin’ it in from Bethpage,” or “Ryan Rocks Bethpage,” or
“Back in Black.”

I like Ballengee At The Black too!

How about...

The Ryan Ballengee – Waggle Room “I’m going to the US Open and you’re not, bitches” Magical Mystery Tour ?

(too long ?) :-D

OEG brings up a good point – the New Yawkers were all cheering for Phil in ‘02 – and he’s not going to be there. I wonder who they’ll get behind this year. It’s like A-Rod and Jeter with them. A-Rod and Tiger may be the best, but Jeter and Phil are “THE MAN”.

Hmm, I’m liking all of the suggestions! I may wind up blending some of these together and having multiple winners :)

I think it’s going to be a blast up there. I’m hoping I can line up some video guests from the media center to have during the show, even if they’re prerecorded.

cool ! I can see it now. “We’re here with Johnny Miller – Johnny – is there some reason you’re such an arrogant ass during the broadcasts ? Is getting the story right less important than telling people how great you were and how incompetent the players of today are ?” :-D

Haha, I probably won’t get the chance to run Johnny through the wringer, but maybe pull in some of my faves.
