What's Your Golfing Bucket List?
You may remember the 2007 film The Bucket LIst starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. The concept of the movie was these guys were going to die, so they wanted to perform a list of things that they created together before they - wait for it - kicked the bucket. Now, "bucket list" is in the lexicon as the list of must do things before you die.
">
John Kim at PGA.com took the concept to heart and created his own bucket list. I loved the idea. He has a good breakdown of the categories on his golfing bucket list. The list includes personal golf achievements, courses that he wants to play, people he wants to play with, and professional golf events that he wants to see.
Harkening on his list, I devised my own.
Personal Golf Achievements:
- Break par for a whole round
- Make a hole in one
- Reach a 550+ par 5 in two
Courses to Play:
- The Old Course
- Royal Melbourne
- Augusta National
- Royal County Down
People to Play With:
- Fred Couples
- Host a charity golf event with friends, family, and some celebs
Golf to See:
- The Open Championship at Carnoustie
- My son or daughter golfing with me some day
This list is created, though, at a point where I have been able to do some cool things playing and covering golf. I got to caddy for Christina Kim in a LPGA Tour pro-am. I asked Tiger Woods a question at the Players. I was moved to tears by the ovation that Tom Watson and Bruce Edwards received after Watson's 65 at the 2003 US Open at Olympia Fields.
So, what's your bucket list?

cool idea...
…it’s going to take some work – but I can help you with one of them…(especially since you already told us that you drive the ball 300 yards with control !!) Take a trip to Phoenix in the summer and pick any course with a 550+ yard par 5. That 300 yard drive will turn into 350+ on baked out, rock hard fairways.
Great list of courses to play – luckily – 3 of them are readily accessible.
- in People to play with is very cool. I’d bet on you doing that one.
Brad – next trip to a book store – pick up a copy of “A Course Called Ireland”. Great read – the author plays every hole of every seaside course in Ireland.

Bucket List
- Become a pro. Teaching pro. I would like to teach the game. At my age, touring pro is very unlikely, but who knows (mini-tours maybe, not PGA Tour).
- Play: The Old Course, Pine Valley, Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Augusta, and a few others.
- Get a hole in one.
- Get my game to the point where playing a round under par is not something that has to appear on a bucket list.
- Play golf with: David Feherty, Gary McCord, John Daly, and Tiger Woods.
- Take extended golf vacations in Scotland and Ireland
- Chat about the swing with the great modern teachers of the game
- Attend a final round of each of the four majors
Can it be said any better than that ??
“- Get my game to the point where playing a round under par is not something that has to appear on a bucket list.”
That is PERFECT !
