Ranking the PGA Tour Schedule
In light of reports that the PGA Tour may be using a ranking scale to determine how players will need to participate on Tour to keep their card, I took the opportunity to rank the entire schedule using my own arbitrary system. I'm hoping that you'll do the same, too. Could be fun!

I’m glad you took a more long term view of tournament ranking. If you had gone present day only, there are only three tournament levels:
(1) Anything Tiger is playing in
(2) Anything Phil is plaing in minus Tiger
(3) Everything else
"this ball will fit in that fairway"

My Ranking
Since ranking PGA Tournaments is entirely subjective, I’ve derived a system that is as subjective as possible. It is derived from my rationale on how closely I will pay attention to a PGA Tour event. It’s as good as any.
Here is my system—every event starts with 100 points. Tournament points are allocated or deducted according to the following criteria:
Major: +50
Major that rhymes with “Lasters”: +50
Major that likely will include a couple of charming ramblings by Peter Alliss? +25
Tournament that’s opposite a Major: -50
Sponsored or associated with a true legend of golf: +5
Sponsored by a former member of N’Sync: -10
The 72nd hole is played at 11PM or 4AM: -20
The 72nd hole is played in front of a multicolored lighthouse: +15
The event is in Dallas: +5
The event is an old school clambake or rowdy gathering: +15
The event is 5 rounds: -15
The event is sponsored by a car or corrective lens that only old people like: -5
The event is sponsored by a bank/investment/insurance company that I’ll never have the minimum balance to set up an account in: -5
The event is sponsored where I have an investment account: +5 (Thank you RBC!)
The event is during NCAA college football season: -100
This is the resulting infallible ranked list of greatness.
1) Masters…200
2) The Open Championship…175
T3) US Open…150
PGA Championship
T5) Verizon Heritage…115
Pebble Beach Pro-Am
T7) Byron Nelson Championship…110
FBR Open
T9) Bob Hope Classic…105
Arnold Palmer Invitational
Colonial
Memorial
RBC Canadian Open
…skip a couple…
T35) Mayakoba, Puerto Rico Open, US Bank, Reno-Tahoe…50
39) Justin Timberlake Open…5
T40) Everything else in the fall not listed…0
46) Deutsche Bank Championship…-5
47) HSBC Champions…-25

Haha, this is EXACTLY the kind of subjectivity that I was hoping would come out of this. That’s pretty good stuff right there :)
