My Weekend of Debauchery and Golf

This weekend was a bit of a wash for me and golf.  Thursday was my birthday and on Friday was when I made the trek down to Raleigh, NC, for the World Beer Festival.  My fiancee and I met up with some of our friends and partied down all day on Saturday.  Long story short: I tried over 100 different types of beer and played a lot of Cornhole.

This is cornhole.

I didn't get to see a lot of sport over the weekend, though.  In the interlude between afternoon and evening partying, I saw the Kentucky Derby and the final four or five holes of the Quail Hollow event.  I can remember thinking, "At 50 to 1, there's no way Zach Johnson is going to win."  Seriously, though, seemed to me that this was going to be a showdown between Woods and Zach.

File photo.

Driving home up I-95, we followed the golf on our BlackBerrys.  I was pretty surprised that O'Hair managed to keep it together.  I was more surprised that people on motorcycles seem to think that driving laws don't apply to them, or that - in addition to being unable to vote right - people from Florida are awful drivers.

The end result was a great weekend of fun and a surprise winner on the PGA Tour.  I know many were probably pulling for Tiger to win, but the best way that Sean O'Hair can become a household name is by winning events.  He doesn't have the charisma of Phil Mickelson or the drunken stupor of John Daly.  But, he has a hell of a lot of talent and, when applied often enough, he can become a household name.

Cornhole, huh? So the game brought to life on the west side of Cincinnati has made it to North Carolina? Poor North Carolina.

Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

Known as "bags" in Iowa.

I’d never heard of it until I moved to Kansas City. I’m utterly terrible at it.

There’s a video game called “Bags” made by the same people who make Golden Tee. I didn’t know it as anything other than Cornhole before I played it down south.

Cornholing got some national attention a few years back when some top name athlete mentioned the game on TV – then guys like Dan Patrick spread the word. Cornholing has definitely been re-energized !

I’m sure nobody was following “Frat House” week last week on 790 the Zone – there was Hooters calendar shoot at the pool and some of the girls found the cornhole game set up and were playing – live and streaming over the inter-web ! The game’s finest moment to date.

C’mon, Court, isn’t that what the FanShot is for?

I thought about posting it there – but didn’t want to tick off D or Stephanie. Don’t need them smacking me around anymore than they already do without the “Male Cheuvanist Pig” tag. (lol)

Hmm, that label stops me from more gratuitous posting too, haha
