The Decider: John Daly is Back. How Does He Do?

Decider_medium

John Daly announced yesterday that he will return to the PGA Tour after a six month suspension from the Tour at TPC Southwind in the St. Jude event that was abandoned by Stanford Financial.

The rumor had been swirling for some time, mainly started by a Daly posting that he would see fans again in Memphis - where the event is played.

Recently, Daly has shown himself to be (a) thinner but also (b) in better rhythm on the course.  Despite a T98 (MC) and a T72 in his last two European Tour starts, it has to be said that Daly is improved because he finished in second at the Italian Open and had another T31.

So, back on the PGA Tour, how will he fare?

How about giving the guy a little credit ? You mention his last two starts (T72 last week in Surrey and the MC at the 3 Irish Open) – but completely skip the second place finish at the Italian BMW and the T31 his first week back at the Spanish Open. He’s played 4 weeks in a row and missed one cut during a week with horrible weather that blew his ball all over the place.

I have to give the guy a ton of support for his efforts to get himself back together and I hope he continues. He still has a lot of game, and if he can continue the improvement, he’ll be a boost to the PGA Tour.

oh – he didn’t start a rumor about returning at Memphis. He flat out stated that he had asked for the sponsor’s exemption. He didn’t hint or beat around the bush – he was asked about returning to the PGA Tour and he was very straight with what he was hoping for.

That’s true, I shouldn’t leave out his two prior starts that were excellent which got the Daly buzz going again in the first place.
