Briny Baird Hit 9 Iron into Petco Park

The folks at PF Chang's must have a good pair of Internet binoculars because they saw my post on Briny Baird's fundraising stunt shot that won America a whole slew of free chicken lettuce wraps.

We were wondering here what club Briny hit to put 8 of 10 balls into the target at Petco Park's right field.

The old saying in golf is that you should take one less club for every 10 yards of elevation drop.  Well, if Briny hits a 3 iron about 230 yards and the drop was almost 120 yards, then he would be hitting putter to the green.

Turns out, as the folks at PF Chang's told me, it was a 9 iron.

So, if you ever want to feel big and tough, go up to the top of the tallest building in your town and crush a 9 iron.  Might also really impress your date without having to get her tickets to the gun show.

I almost wish I didn’t know that. Put a pro on a perfect lie hitting a 9 iron, he would be upset with himself for missing the green even 1 out of 10 times….but that’s still pretty impressive hitting that far out and that far down ! :-)

Really good angle on the Briny shot

Hi Ryan! Check out this video of the Briny PF Chang’s stunt. It’s a much abbreviated version that also shows what he did for the military via the charity. Great cause and this video is energetic and fun.

Alternatively, play golf in the Vail Valley.

On a dry day on a tee with a 100+ foot vertical drop. Remember The International? That was at 5000 feet and featured guys making a 630+ yard Par 5 in two before the massive changes in technology. Now add 3000 feet to it. I once played an executive course there where pitch shots would fly past the hole.

I may have to consider having my honeymoon there…
