Briny Baird Copies Paddy Harrington, Scores You Free Food
Briny Baird is sponsored by PF Chang's - an Asian "bistro" chain restaurant that has some pretty good food. Baird has had some solid success in recent years, but never can seem to putt well enough to win a tournament. The synergy of two pretty good things working together seems to make sense.
Well, I think PF Chang's must have seen the amazing par three video that hit the Internet like wildfire after One Eyed Golfer found it, I linked it, and then Jay Busbee shared it with the ultraverse at Devil Ball Golf.
If you haven't seen the video - or want to relive it - check it out.
Anyway, PF Chang's had Briny Baird go to the top of San Diego's Omni Hotel at a height of 375 feet and hit golf balls to a target located 230 yards away in right field at Petco Park - home of your San Diego Fathers.
They gave him 10 shots to hit the bullseye. He hit it 8 times. For one, that's pretty impressive. What's more, though, is that Briny's work has earned you and I free chicken lettuce wraps at PF Chang's and the restaurant is donating $25,000 to charity.
Here's the video of Briny doing his thing. It's the corporate version of the video on YouTube as opposed to the highlights I saw last night on SportsCenter. It's kind of long and Jay Busbee suggested going to about the six minute mark to see the action.
Briny Baird - Real Man of Genius. PF Chang's - Home of a Free Lettuce Thing. Jay Busbee - Man Who Gets the Hat Tip.

Do you think he was asking himself why he can’t be that accurate when he’s in contention on Sundays ? That’s pretty cool video !
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
If they had him putting from inside 25 feet, America wouldn’t be getting lettuce wraps.

If they gave Tiger Woods 25’ putts and said that he had to make 50% of them for everybody to get these things – America wouldn’t be getting them.
I didn’t hear them say what club he was hitting, but he hit it up quite a ways off the roof – figured maybe a 5 iron ? 6 ?
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I would guess a 6 or 7. Isn’t it something like one club less for every 10 yard change in elevation?

yeah – that’s what I usually try to figure on a big downhill hole, but at some point you have to figure out carry yardage because a ball in flight expends energy and will eventually stop going out and just drop straight down.
wait – that would mean hitting putter off the roof. 230 yards for these guys is at most a 5-wood – drop a club for every 30 feet on a 375 foot tall building – that’s 12 clubs…
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Haha, that’d be true. I would stick with 6 iron.
