Bob Rosburg Has Died at Age 82
Bob Rosburg has died at age 82 after falling in Indio, California yesterday.

Rosburg, or 'Rossie' as he was nicknamed, was the 1959 PGA Champion and came one shot short of a playoff at the 1969 US Open. He may have been Scott Hoch before Hoch was. Rossie missed a short putt on eighteen to tie.
Fifty years removed from his major championship triumph, Rosburg is best known to the casual golf fan for his work on television broadcasts. I don't critique the announcers very often (or very well) but remember what my father said about Rosburg. Some chip or pitch is always "an impossible shot."
Golf Observer's Sal Johnson has a long tribute up to Rossie and I suggest all of your read it.

easygoing, conversational style
Maybe he’s not one of the all-timers, but he was always a good voice on the 15th hole or so.
His style is way better than the tiresome, “he’s got no shot,” comment from John Inman evert time a golfer’s ball was in the rough.

His voice is definitely one that I remember very fondly.

In the early- to mid-50s, Mr. Rosburg lived down the street from me. I didn’t know him, but I remember my mother telling me he lived there.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
