Will PGA Tour Ever See Trash Talk?
I often wonder when some young whippersnapper is going to pop up on the PGA Tour and start talking trash to his fellow competitors. Throwing insults and banter around to put their opponent off down the stretch. Not that I ever want to see it. It’s one of the games biggest strengths - sportsmanship. So, I guess the closest we’ll get to it is an Antony Kim v. Sergio Garcia Ryder Cup battle or this from Bubba Watson.
For those of you who can’t understand Bubba’s southern American twang aimed at Steve Elkington, he says: "Tell yew what, veterans can kiss my ass."

I had to edit the YouTube coding because it didn’t have the embed tags, but it should show now. I remember seeing this from – if I remember right – New Orleans last year. There was a to do then about it.
I honestly think there is quite a bit of friendly trash talk on Tour – if that terms is appropriate. Maybe not so much during the tournament.

No doubt – a LOT of these guys take shots at each other during a round – in good fun, of course. The thing with Bubba Watson wasn’t trash talking – he was talking to his caddy, not directly to Elkington. It’s hard to beat good trash talking.
One of the best trash talking stories I have heard was from former Atlanta Hawk Dominique Wilkins. In his rookie year, he had to face up with Larry Bird – who just abused him all night. Every time Bird had the ball, he would tell Wilkins what shot he was going to take and where he was going to take it from. If Wilkins tried to talk back, Bird just turned up the heat. Bird put up 46 that night.

From what I've read....
…Bird and Jordan were probably the two biggest trash talkers in NBA history. That they could both back it up was the great thing.

Bubba was defiantly talking to Elkington and not to his caddie.
I agree that allot of them trash talk for fun, but my point was that there is no proper competitive trash talk like above. Although I admit the above was said in response to annoyance of poor etiquette. I’m just surprised more tee jangling in the pocket, small jousts to players before they step up to nervy 6 footer on the 71st hole and outright ‘sledging’ isn’t seen or heard of when the prize is so huge.
Good story about Bird.

no no no – Bubba was talking to his own caddy – not Elk’s caddy. Sorry – those darn pronouns get me in more trouble. :-)

No, I hope not too
That is what I love about Golf….professional all around
Now, some golfers are douchebags, some are funny, and others are just….well, annoying.
But, the majority take the high-road and I like that

They all take the high road and that’s what I find amazing, with millions of dollars on the line. Like you said, I guess that’s one of the features that makes golf so good!
