Google Search Suggests PGA Tour 1 in 4 Rule is Coming

I was checking the statistics for Waggle Room and Golf News Net last night and noticed a flourish of activity for one specific search term: "PGA Tour 1 in 4 rule" or some variation thereof.

A shout out to Office Space completely unrelated to this post.

There have been calls going around for quite some time now that Commissioner Tim Finchem work with the independent contractors players to institute some kind of mandatory appearance rule similar to the one in four rule implemented by the LPGA Tour years ago.

The weird thing is that this surge in activity for just this one keyword basically happened overnight.  In fact, it had me wondering if the Tour did something about it while I was out that night.  As it turns out, nothing happened.  And probably nothing it going to happen.  But I was sure fooled last night!

yeah – I can see Finchem knocking on Tiger’s front gate…then maybe the front door…asking if it’s ok if they demand that he change his schedule every year.

Haha, yeah, it’s not going to happen anytime soon, but I just found it funny that so many people came to the site for that reason in the last day or two.

As someone who likes and respects Tiger

It does really bother me how much power he has with non-majors.

I understand what a golfer goes through due to a family member playing a few years on the Tour but I still would like to see Tiger play more tournaments

It just seems unenforceable

or at least that it will be poorly enforced

you are so right – as long as Majors are all anybody thinks about, the top players are going to keep their preparation the same from year to year.

Well, they could always just pay the fine and then they give that to some charity at the end of the year…

as swell a thought as that may be – it ain’t gonna happen – the last thing they want is a feud between players and the rules.

Well, it could still happen, but not until the next television contract in 2012.

…but the world is coming to an end in 2012

Then I would guess the players would play a pretty full schedule.
