Brian Gay Will Finally Get to the Masters
A couple of years ago, when the Masters committee reinstituted the exemption for PGA Tour winners to get into the tournament, I was ecstatic. Sure, a player had to win a FedEx Cup event and not one opposite a major or World Golf Championship. Still, it made each FedEx Cup win a pretty significant one.
Imagine how Brian Gay feels now that he has won a FedEx Cup event...by 10...at the Verizon Heritage. He has a spot at the 2010 Masters locked up and it is his. He had several close calls before, including being on the cusp of the top 40 Money List exemption twice.

From Adam Van Brimmer's column in the Augusta Chronicle:
The first came in 2001. Back then, the Masters invited the top 40 money winners from the 2000 PGA Tour season. Gay finished 41st, $13,686 behind Billy Andrade.
Then he whiffed again on the money list [last season]. The Masters retooled its qualification list earlier this decade and now takes only the top 30 money leaders. Gay came to the season finale at Disney needing only to make the cut to break the top-30. He shot 68 in the second round but couldn't make up for his 73 on the opening day.
Gay had won the Mayakoba Golf Classic last season, but that was opposite the Accenture Match Play. No dice for the Masters. Now, he's in and that's great news for a guy who has worked very hard to get to this point in his career.

he was outstanding !
I love the Heritage – great course – great views – and a lot of different ways to play well and win. You always get to see a short game clinic thanks to the tiny greens. Gay had it all working – good for him.
On another note – we finally have a winner in the “who’s hotter than Phil’s wife” contest. WOW !! :-)

Court, we could seriously have a NCAA bracket for hottest PGA Tour wife/girlfriend/rendezvous. If I attended more Tour events, I could orchestrate it.

Wrote the best tournaments for watching the ladies(female gallery members) were Byron Nelson and Colonial.
Mrs. May
Since I was in the Czech Republic at the time of the 2000 PGA, i have no idea what the runner up’s wife looks like. Or are we talking playboy of the month? ;-)
Gay will probably win some more tournaments like this
in the future but until he adds distance (due to his stand-up hitting style), he will not come close to winning a major
He needs that distance that he gives up for accuracy.
good ol' Golf Channel
watching Golf Central this morning, we got the final kiss off to the relatively unknown Brian Gay. Winner by 10 shots last weekend – but the REAL story (according to xxx Golf Channel) was the two guys who tied for 4th. Yep – that’s what they said. Lee Janzen and Todd Hamilton were the REAL story. Why ? Because they have won majors in their career.
I just don’t understand the need to insult Brian Gay like that. I love the Janzen/Hamilton story – but not at the expense of Gay.

Yeah, saw that too. Was a bit mystified by that. I mean, Lee Janzen is pretty much done. Hamilton was interesting because his 5 year exemption for winning the Open ends this year.

I don’t know how “done” Janzen is. He’s been through some physical problems the last 5 years and he’s finally getting things together. He’s not over the hill, by any means, and he has several years before he hits the Champions Tour level. He might not be a contender at Bethpage Black and courses of that length, but he will start showing up more often.
