Nick Price is a Winner on the Champ Tour
Nick Price is now 52 years old. In Champions Tour years, that means he is a young'un. As has become seemingly the custom on the circuit, the new younger guys that start on the Tour dominate for a while before coming back to the rest of the Tour.
That was expected of Price, particularly considering that the Tour is a place for iron and putting marksmen. With those being the strong suits of Price's game, it was expected that he would dominate the Tour.
To this point, though, Price has not been able to prove that prediction accurate. He had gone through 38 Champ Tour starts without a win, including a Champions Major letdown at the Senior Players Championship last season.
Entering the final round with the lead at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am in Tampa, it appeared that this would be the week for Nick the Slick. Then, he made three double bogeys on 4, 7, and 10 against four birdies and a bogey in that time frame. It appeared that the Zimbabwean was going to falter again. He recovered with unlikely birdies on 13 through 15 to regain his footing. By making pars into the house, Price finally had his Champions Tour win.
I was really pleased to see Nick win on Sunday. He was one of the first players that I ever spoke to at a live event and he couldn't have been more kind. He is known as a wonderful sportsman and an ever better man.
