The Masters is Going High Tech

The knock on Augusta National by Martha Burk (remember her?) was that the club was a group of "good ole boys" who were stuck in a long-gone era of treatment of minorities and women.  You can make whatever commentary you want on that subject, but the Masters tournament has arguably been and continues to be the leader in using technology to grow the reach of the tournament.

We've been getting Amen Corner Live and Masters Extra on the Masters website for quite sometime now.  The Masters website is pretty extensive in and of itself with stats and history.

This year, though, they have increased their mobile and Internet presence.  They have Masters Today and Tonight, hosted by Jim Huber, to talk about the tournament events of the day.  They have three bloggers covering the tournament for the site.  They also have live video of the par 3 contest and live player interviews will continue to be broadcast.

Even more, m.masters.com will give mobile users access to the leaderboard in real time and video highlights.  Also, they have developed an iPhone app that will allow users to stream video of the tournament on their phone and get course flyovers.

Finally, FLO TV - which provides live mobile TV and video streaming to both AT&T and Verizon - have partnered with Augusta National to broadcast Amen Corner, 15, and 16 to AT&T subscribers.  (AT&T is a corprorate partner of the Masters.  Sorry, Verizon customers!  Like me!)

For a man on the go like myself, the Masters will be easier to follow than ever.  And, I'll be Tweeting the Masters @waggleroom all championship long!

Looks like it is working on the same platfom as March Madness on Demand

Did anyone else pick up one of those on the course live video things at last year’s US Open? Really made it easy to follow the action when I got trapped in the Tiger/Lefty gallery for a couple holes.
