The Augusta National Scorecard Lied
Bill Fields takes a look at how many of the holes at Augusta National - particularly those that drew the most ire from critics - played significantly shorter than the scorecard yardage throughout the week.

Ryan, I just thanked Bill
Fields from Golf Digest for that tidbit. I was amazed the scoring wasn’t lower. I mean that yardage reduction equated to just over 7 yards per hole. I bet next year they make it 8-9 yards per hole and the scores will be in the 50’s…
Boy, I hate it when I am in a facetious mood…

Wow - I guess it's a CONSPIRACY !!!!!!!!!!!!
you’re having fun with this, aren’t you, RB ? :-)
Let’s see – 7 years of complaining that the course is too long. The club adds yardage to the tee boxes so the yardage can be moved around from day to day. This was not a secret – it’s been public knowledge since last Fall.
Now this rocket scientist compares a static scorecard with what was played each day and – VOILA ! – we have a conspiracy !! Amazing.
too funny, One :-D

This thing is bigger than Augusta National.
I happen to know for a fact that several holes (especially the longer par threes) at the Becky Peirce Municipal Golf Course in Huntsville, Alabama played significantly shorter than their scorecard yardage.
I demand to know if Billy Payne has been in communication with the Huntsville, Alabama Parks and Recreation Department! (Drafting FOIA request now.)

This is getting a little scary...
Are you telling me golf courses can actually adjust the placement and distance of the tee markers and make the course harder or easier? Wow!! Next thing you know, you will be telling me they can mow the grass to whatever height they wish…
I thought aspiring golf course designers and golf writers determined how golf courses for major championships should be set up.
So, they might not have to plow Augusta National under and start again from scratch?

You know me a little too well, Court. This was definitely just intended to get under y’all’s skin :)
But, there is some value in seeing how the course was setup from a distance perspective.
