Fantasy Crystal Ball: Verizon Heritage

After the thrills of the Masters, the PGA Tour kicks back into its regular schedule with the Verizon Heritage. This is one of my favorite tournaments on the schedule. Harbour Town is one of the best courses in the country and holds up very well to today's modern technology despite its very modest length. (Too short, actually, at under 7000 yards.)

The course relies heavily on doglegs, overhanging trees, and small greens as defense. It requires shots that require placement and precision. It is a Pete Dye course as well.
This means that a player that wins this week must be able to drive the ball well, have laser accuracy with the irons, or be named Davis Love III.
I'll start with DL3. He finished so-so - tied for 36th - in each of the last two years. But, he has five career wins and a runner up in 2005. I just love the guy here.
Boo Weekley is two-time defending champion, courtesy of some great short game theatrics. With a guy having that kind of track record, you would be a fool not to at least have him on your bench in case.
Paul Casey and Jim Furyk also seem like wise picks this week. They are both extremely precise iron players and good enough drivers of the ball to handle a 7000 yard tight course. If the putter is working for either, I like their chances a lot.
This is one of the few weeks of the year where I will recommend Aaron Baddeley. He has won here and finished 2nd last year.
Speaking of which, you may want Stewart Cink on your team. He has won this event twice, too.
At Harour Town, I like players who understand that this course requires a mindset different from most courses that the Tour visits. You will want to fill your team with these guys. No hunches needed this week. Trust the track record.

# of wins?
Actually, I had thought that DLIII has won at Harbour Town five(!) times. Sounds crazy, though.
Whoops, I was confusing myself with DL3 and Boo. Sorry about that!

Amen. That’s spot on. Also, this may be the flattest course on the PGA Tour schedule.
