The Golf Blogger has a nice piece up discussing the connection between 2009 Masters winner Angel Cabrera and fellow Argentinian (and 1968 "stupid") Roberto De Vicenzo. I think the language barrier really hurt the coverage of El Pato, his win, and this connection. It's worth checking out.

His translator was horrible

Must have been a buddy or something, because I could understand his Spanish and he didn’t even come close to accurately describing to Cabrera the questions Nantz was asking.

Yeah, I was listening to the translator half-ass the translations of Nantz’s questions and El Pato’s answers.

Finally

Someone other than me who credits DeVicenzo(Or Julius Boros, Art Wall or Tommy Bolt) with helping to create the Senior Tour through their incredible playoff at the 1979 Legends of Golf.

I don’t think you’re alone in that estimation, Bill. There just aren’t a lot of people out there who talk about it because of how little coverage the Champ Tour gets.

Last year

When Tommy Bolt passed away, no mention was made of his contribution in any obituary I saw.

Hell AP didn’t even note Orville Moody was 1969 player of the year in their obituary for him. A lot of golf history is forgotten, or plain lost because of poor record keeping. Sal Johnson’s USA golf encyclopedia is a great resource, but I found at least 3 PGA tournament results missing from it, including one year’s Texas Open.

good piece

I was listening to xxx Golf Channel “analysis” of the connection between Cabrera and DiVincenzo – their conclusion was that this win was “vindication” for the DiVincenzo loss. RIGHT !! Idiots. The entire country of Venezuela has been secretly plotting to win The Masters since 1968 to correct the injustice of DiVincenzo signing his own card incorrectly.

xxx Golf Channel needs an editor AND a fact checker.

"this ball will fit in that fairway"
