Three New Product Reviews Videos to Check Out
I finally was able to get out to the course for the first round of the year a few weeks ago. While I was out there at Fairway Hills in Columbia (it was in rough shape), I tried three new golf products that had been sitting at my house just waiting to be used. I played my round using the new, post-Callaway lawsuit version of the Pro V1. I putted with the Slotline SL583-F putter. And, I got my distances using my first ever golf GPS - the Izzo Swami.
Take a look at the videos and let me know what you think.

Izzo
Yardage to F/C/B of the green is 50% of a GPS unit for me. Distance to hazards and to carry hazards is important. Especially on a new course (new for me) there may be a bunker visible from the tee that looks 215-220 and you try to fly it only to find out it is 250-260. Also, a treeline which looks undriveable on a dogleg may be closer than it looks and a great drive is in the woods. You get what you pay for.
I have a SkyCaddie, but today I would purchase a product without annual course download subscriptions.
Fairway Hills?!?!?!

I can agree with that. Normally, I don’t consider bunkers, hazards, etc, unless they are running perpendicular to the fairway. But, I understand what you mean about doglegs and the like.
Fairway Hills is about 2 minutes from my house and cheap. (Not as cheap as it should be.) So, I wanted to get out there and do the filming without having to bother anyone at a nicer course. Definitely was not there to enjoy the layout cause it was in terrible shape.

You're missing the point
The Izzo unit is bare bones and low cost. If you want all that other information, you’ll be paying three times as much as a minimum. They are putting out an even lower cost unit ($99) in the near future.
What this GPS is good for is yardage to F/C/B when the green is in view. It measures distance directly – if you are playing a hole with a dogleg, you get yardage as the crow flies, not around the bend. It’s great for courses you are generally familiar with, or at least have some idea how far you have to hit your tee shots to make it around the dogleg and get in sight of the green.
It is a price thing – not a technology thing.
