The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - 3/9/09

Twice a week (or so) we take a look at the world of professional golf through the lens of the classic Western.

The Good

  • Ji Yai Shin - Shin pulled through on the weekend to pick up her maiden victory as an official member of the LPGA Tour.  In the final round, Shin made up all of the ground that she needed to in order to surpass Australian Katherine Hull.  A final round of -6 and Hull's +2 made up 8 shots and led to a two shot win.
  • Korea - It was a great weekend for Korena golf, what between the victories of Ji Yai Shin and Y.E. Yang.  Yang became the second Korean to ever win on the PGA Tour, behind K.J. Choi.
  • John Rollins - Rollins crapped the bed at Torrey Pines and let Nick Watney win there.  On Sunday at PGA National, he made a run of his own in the hopes that Yang would choke.  Yang didn't, but neither did Rollins, who finished in second place.

The Bad

  • Chris Stroud - He began the day on Sunday at even at in a tie for 27th.  Had he shot 70, he would've finished in the same spot.  Instead, he fired 77 and shot down to a tie for 64th.

The Ugly

  • Darren Clarke's 3 at 15 - Basically in the hazard, plays out of the hazard to 15 feet with an uninspiring chip, and makes the putt for par.  And I really can empathize with that kind of style.
  • Eduardo Romero - He won on the Champions Tour's Toshiba Classic, but he was hanging on for dear life.  A lot of that had to do with Joey Sindelar's final round of 63.  Still, a win is a win no matter how you do it.

gotta feel good for Yang

I had forgotten about all the things MEN have to deal with in Korea that women don’t. They are not free to live their lives until they are almost in their mid 20’s – after military school and military service. No wonder they don’t have the numbers of talented players making their way to the PGA Tour. Choi is just a fantastically talented athlete, and Yang is a great golfer who persevered.

And to Johnny Miller – anybody who misses an 80 foot putt a foot to the right but hole high did NOT read the putt wrong. MORON !! That’s called a GREAT lag putt. IDIOT !!

We really gotta get Johnny Miller out of there. I think he just makes stuff up sometimes so he can be kinda mad.
