Anybody Watch the Barkley Show Premiere?

I watched it - enjoyed it !  I was afraid it was going to be kind of hokey, but Barkley's sense of humor alone could carry the show.  (You have to love the shots he takes at Tiger Woods.)

What really impressed me was his desire and willingness to work that hard - making 1000 swings in one day with Haney acting as the drill sargent.  He really worked up a sweat.

Couple of things I noticed...when they were having breakfast and Barkley talked about how his game fell apart over the last 10 years, and seeing what his swing really looks like, and maybe having Haney laughing as hard as he did sort of hurt Barkley's feelings a bit.  It can't be easy for a guy with world class athletic ability to see himself look like his body is completely out of control.

The other thing was Haney telling Barkley what Tiger told Haney that Barkley needed to fix - it sounded like Tiger was Haney's coach.  Made me wonder what Haney actually teaches Tiger.  Probably just my imagination.

This is going to be a terrific series.

I caught several minutes of it last night and enjoyed what I say. I love Chuck on TNT, so I would watch him anytime. Haney strikes me as an interesting cat. From what I remember of stories that I read from Woods-Haney, seems like Haney is more an adviser than teacher.

I watched it, as well.

Enjoyed the hell out of it. While the premiere episode was, of course, light on detailed instruction (what w/ Barkley and Haney getting to know each other, etc.), it promised a great deal of detail in the weeks to come.

Oh: I should also note that I just moved back to Alabama, and I’m already looking forward to Barkley’s long-promised gubernatorial run five years from now. Hell – I’ve already begun the campaign:

Didn't even have to Tivo

Of course I watched. I’ve been waiting for months for the show to air. Mr. Barkley is hilarious, although I did hear some of his Tiger shtick on Conan last fall. It still makes me laugh. If you haven’t seen it, I have the clip at my shop at http://realwomengolf.blogspot.com/2009/02/i-know-why-tigers-back.html. I promise you will spend most of the 4 minutes laughing. Too bad NBC cut the clip, it was even funnier before.

That said, I like the show. You can see Mr. Barkley’s pain and frustration. It was a little worrisome for me to hear Mr. Haney tell Mr. Barkley some of the same things I have heard from my coach, Mr. Brokaw. Although I do NOT do that hitch thing.

I’m not sure Mr. Haney and I would be a good fit. A coach and a student need some chemistry to make things work. He’s an interesting bird, I will continue to to watch. I am a sucker for these shows. This is why I am not a hater of TGC.

what was the same ?

What is it in your swing and Barkley’s swing that you got similar analysis from your coach and Haney ? If you’re doing similar things, it seems like hearing the same advice from two excellent teachers would be a good thing.

Tom Brokaw is giving you golf lessons ? (careful – he’ll have you pulling everything to the left !) :-D

Don’t judge a book by an edited cover. Remember – Haney and Barkley spent at least 2 days setting up for the 1 day on the range. You saw about 20 minutes of 3 days.

I hear ya

The advice I’m hearing is good. I just wish I didn’t need it. ;o) But I have to take the good with the bad if I want to improve.

But don’t get me wrong. I’m definitely in this one for the long haul. Great fun!
