A Couple of New Golf Sites to Tell You About

In my time away, I missed out on the introduction of a couple of new golf sites from Geoff Shackelford's site.  And since Waggle Room is linked on the blogroll of both sites, I feel like a big dork for not having seen them already!  But, they're both very good and enjoyable.

The first is by former T+L Golf writer and editor Tom Dunne.  It's called Out and Back.  Lots of good posts on the site already, but it covers mostly golf travel, architecture, business, and golf arts.  I think you'll really enjoy it.  And you can find Tom on Twitter as well.

The other is called Punchbowl Golf.  Will and Colin have kicked off a blog that covers a subject I love, but am not as well-versed in: golf architecture.  Will Smith has worked in the golf course business, including under the guidance of Tom Doak.  Colin Sheehan is the coach of the Yale golf team.  These are some smart, experienced fellas, and they run their own design firm.

Their mission:

We share a profound love of golf and its architecture, which is a dynamic and worthy subject to study and discuss. We believe that course design is most successful when it is artistic and compelling yet simple and practical. Most of all, the game should be about spending quality time with friends among nature and its elements. Through our golfing adventures, we have met a wide range of fascinating people. We will use this platform to present insight from our own experiences and from industry leaders – from architects and superintendents to developers and shapers.

They do a lot of videos and interviews, which is the best way to experience course design; that is, to talk about it with the people that do it and to see them in action.

Punchbowl

I’m liking the architectural conversation on Punchbowl. Great insight.

It would be great to have a database for every golf course, not just the high dollar courses they have covered so far. Having a little help before playing a new course is huge !
